On the last couple of club lapping days at Mosport, my power steering fluid was spitting out of the pressure release on the cap and smoking like mad on the headers. Since I use the car as a regular driver, I am not keen on getting rid of the p/s completely. However, I am interested in continuing with lapping days and perhaps entering some Solo1 events this coming summer.
Is there a hi-po p/s pump available or better fluid that I can use to eliminate this problem?
My car is a '92 5.0L Mustang notchback - the only modifications so far are within the suspsnsion - the motor is virtually stock. I know there may be few Mustangs within the CASC but hopefully someone has some experience that may help me out.
Cheers & Happy Holidays.

A small tranny oil cooler on the return line fixed that same problem on my Camaro. Good luck!

Most cars use ATF in the power steering, so you can also switch to a synthetic ATF in combination with the steering fluid cooler. You can also improve the airflow to the fluid reservoir.

Hi, I also had the same experience once in my 92 coupe.
Basically what has been said so far is all you have to do.
Cut the metal cooler lines that run to the front of your rad,
attach rubber tubing to a cooler mounted in front of rad.
The ones Canadian Tire sell for trans coolers work just fine.
I use the larger one approx 8x10
The larger cooler also helps add more fluid to you system.
Flush you system and install new fluid. There are many brands
available at Canadian tire.
I also wrap a shop rag around the top on my filler cap and use twist
ties to hole in place.
This will stop the mess and dripping on to the headers.
P.S. There is a Ford day every year at Mosport.
June 27th I think this year. The cheapest day you ever get at the big track. :D

Thanks for the detailed reply. Yes, those are the track days that I've been going to. I'm a member of the GHMA so I had been going since they started a number of years ago. I missed the past few years because I was living in England. But I'm back now and getting the car ready for 2007 - an now thinking of taking the next step to some Solo1 events!
Thanks again.
