Looking for 16x8 (or wider) at 114.3 pattern with a mid 30's or so offset for the MR2.

I only mention it in case, I dunno someone recalls seeing some for sale somewhere or what. Just a feeler while I'm here.

I've looked around the net last year and never found too many. But one thing I did know is the 15x7's I was running on the car were too small, plus they were rubbing on the perch.

Weight is not a terrible issue for me since I'm SOOOO far back in my class that dropping 20lbs of rotational mass isn't going to make up the gap... hell 500hp wouldn't make up the gap :) So I think I'll go "budget" on the wheels and spend those savings on tuning, or an LSD. :)

The tire rack lists the kosei K1's in a 16x8.5 that weigh 15.8 to 16-2 pounds.Thats where I got mine for my old corolla(15x7)and their also a 114.3 pattern and they fit perfect with hub centric bushings included.BTW I thought first gen MR2 went to the 4x100 pattern?

First Gens may.. I don't have a first gen.

I had K1's on the car. I asked around about the 16x8 and was told they didn't make them anymore. Still, I'd like to find a cheap set for now. And imported 16" Kosei's will be somewhere around $1300-1400.

The RSRacing ones worry me a bit for a couple reasons... I... never heard of them (though that doesn't mean a whole lot.. the part about me not hearing about them). However if they're really unknown then I worry a bit about their liability. One would think that a company that has something to loose will maintain strict safety standards. I dunno... "no name" stuff that's directly responsibile for my safety always worrys me. Think I'd have to cage the car prior to buying anything unknown.

Or, are these wheels world class and used everywhere?

I just think of Keith Braughtons wheels that snapped two years ago at Cayuga... we're all looking at the wheels trying to figure out who the hell the manufacturer was.

BTW, I can't get Tire Rack to show me 16x8.5 K1's in a 114.3 bolt pattern.

Is there not a way to show a list of sizes for a particular wheel? Instead of having to select your car?

They're popular with the SCCA Solo II racers in AP and CP and I'll be using a set on the Cobra this year in 16X12 to be AP legal, but I can't speak to their safety. They're clearly unsuitable for road use.

yeah I'd easily buy some for AutoX I think. The website definately seems to indicate thats their intended market.

Taylor,

I am going to be buying som REAL wheels for this season. Stuart at CanJam Racing was running them on his GT2 2nd gen RX-7 in the OTCC series two years ago. One of his twins bent one of the rims in an off track excurssion and the hub sustained no damage. They put a new shell on and it was as good as new. I think they were running 16x10s. Of course as you know you should not run light weight race wheels on the street. Another option is getting some take offs from a 3rd gen RX-7. They are 5 x 114.3 16 x 8s. Not sure on the there weight, but you could use them on the street and I have seen them pretty cheap.

If you're looking for something inexpensive, why don't you get a set of steel circle-track wheels. Diamond makes some. I think a 16 x 8 would weigh around 21 pounds, cost maybe C$150 or so. Not very pretty, but performance isn't bad, and steel is very forgiving. Any of the oval track dealers like Grisdale, Bicknell or CSC can source these things.

Ron,

Do you know if anyone carries the REAL line in Canada? I was going to get mine directly or from RSRacing, but I'd rather deal locally.

Taylor

yeah I was thinking steel but didn't think they'd offer them so wide... apparently I'm wrong. :)

Yeah that kind of price would work. Then when I'm in contention with.. someone, then I can find a nice set of light weights.

Thanks for the heads-up and leads...

John,

I am not aware of any dealers in Canada. As far as I can tell there a 3 dealers in the US: RSRacing, Hoerr Racing and Midatlanic Motorsports. Stuart bought his from Hoerr, they quoted me $238 and RSRacing and Midatlantic have them for $211. I also got a quote from Keiser at $275 each. The Keisers are 12 lbs as opposed to Reals at 14 1/2 lbs for 15x10s. Joe Cheng in Vancouver, the owner of the world A-Mod Solo II champ Phantom, turned me off Keisers and said that Tom at Midatlantic was a good guy to buy from. I never recieved a reply from an email I sent to RSRacing, so I think I am going to go with Tom at Midatlantic.

If anyone wants to do a group buy perhaps we can save a bit on shipping and brokerage, I may be interested in that.

Looks like MidAtlantic has the best price too. They seem to offer them at the same price as getting them directly from Real.

I'd be interested in a group purchase.

John,

I would like to order some in the next week or two but am somewhat flexible. When would you be interested in purchasing? Taylor would you be interested?
I don't mind doing the order on this to get it done in one account. I'm sure you two guys wouldn't default on the dough after I dole out the cash. Besides, a nice S2000 and SC Factory Five would look not too bad in my garage if you did :)

Either of you two or anyone else for that matter that may be interested in this can call me at 905-888-5083 or at work 905-762-6177 or email ron@centrinity.com

cheers,
Ron

I'm intrigued but I think I'll pass since I do want to run these wheels on the track and I think they're too autoX specific for my comfort.

Though it would be kinda neat to get a set on the S2000. Stock ones are so heavy. At least then I'm on par with Kreutzwiser and wheels. :)

Ron,

It probably makes sense to get them ordered ASAP, else we'll be caught up in the spring rush. I'll get under the car this weekend and figure out my backspacing and contact you next week.

We'll figure out the gory details when we talk.

just be carefull with them as they are track use only and be sure to run a wheel spacer to prevent the rim from shering your studs.

PS, their rims are usually a pound or two lighter then listed on the website.

3rd generation RX-7 wheels are likely as light a factory wheel as you will find, I think. 16 X 8, 5 bolt on 114.3, 13.8 lb - 15.4 lb depending on the date of manufacture. They are 50 mm offset though, you will need a good sized spacer.

Taylor

16x8 at a 50mm offset would mean I would need Rally style spacers.. then I'd have to CUT out my fenders. :)

Not a solution.

Wow... a logical, appropriate use for a widebody kit.

Can you say.. Simmonds? :)
