David is an author whose book, due out in the coming months, is about CASC and the early days of motorsport in Canada, including rallying. Robin has been involved in rallying for almost five decades and participated in many of the major rallies of the
60s and 70s. The symposium will explore the beginning of rally in Canada and the start of the CRC in 1957.
Symposium #2 The Transition to Stage Rallies presented by Jones Brown
Chaired by Doug Woods, this symposium will have Tom Burgess, George Dewar and Randy Black on the panel. This panel will outline how the championship changed from navigational format rallies to stage rallies as well as describing the process followed by regions across the country.
Symposium #3 Rally Stars presented by Peterborough Motor Sports Club
Meet the stars. The participants in this session are the most winning competitors in Canadian rallies – Taisto Heinonen, Walter Boyce, Jean-Paul Perusse, Frank Sprongl, Trish McGeer and
John Buffum. Between them they have won 29 Canadian Championships and 178 events.
They will tell you about how they got started, highlights of their rally careers and will offer tips on becoming a winner. Plus they will answer your personal questions. The symposium will be chaired by Ross Wood.
Symposium #4 Targa Newfoundland presented by Yokohama Tire Canada
Since its inception 5 years ago Targa Newfoundland has captured the imagination of all who truly love motorsport and the adventure. It has been called “The Ironman of Motorsport” and the “Ultimate Motorsport Adventure”. It has created a brotherhood from those who have competed or participated in it.
To help you experience Targa Newfoundland and hear about the coming 2007 event, we have arranged for a special hour and a half seminar to be presented by the event owners Robert and Scott Giannou. It will be in three parts: The first, a video, will allow you to share the excitement of previous events, the second, a PowerPoint, will describe the coming event then lastly the floor will be opened for discussion and questions.
Symposium #5 Special Rallies presented by RallySport Ontario
This symposium will present some insights into some of the predecessors of the Targa Newfoundland and will be chaired by B Gilles Lacroix who was on the organizing committee of the Criterium de Québec and will feature Brent Davies who was a long time member of the organizing committee of the Canadian International Winter Rally, Marcus Chappell who was the organizer of the Rideau Lakes Rally. They will be joined by Marcel Chichak who has created a web site dedicated to the Shell 4000 Rally. There have been many special rallies in Canada’s rally history and the panel will give you a glimpse into the past when 1000 mile rallies and the WRC became part of our rally heritage.
Symposium #6 The Future and Town Hall Meeting
The final symposium of the Celebration weekend will be hosted by the CARS Board. The symposium will look into the immediate and long term future of the Canadian Rally Championship. As well, there will be an opportunity to exchange views with the 2007 CARS board.
The Rally Drive In presented by Castrol
Throughout the weekend many films, television show presentations and assorted other videos will be shown. Included in the schedule are rallies from all 5 decades. We will not want to miss the films on the Shell 4000, the 63 Lobster Rally, the Canadian Winter Rally or the Rally Master.
The Hospitality Room presented by a Friend of the Sport
The organizing committee has set aside this room for people to come in and sit down and enjoy some light snacks and drinks while catching up with old acquaintances.
6 Decades of Rallying Room presented by Audi Canada
This room is the feature attraction of the Celebration and will contain both commercial and club displays from Subaru Canada, CSC Racing Products, Yokohama Tire, Rallysport.ca and PMSC as well as lots of memorabilia throughout the decades. There will be lots of photographs, route books, media clippings, rule books, rally equipment and documents. We will have the original CASC Fidler, Deak, Joan McAlpine and Manufacturer trophies as well.
