looks like the IRS is getting the boot!
maybe honda has decided to make the way of the VW :D
What an ugly, ugly car, I don't think it will ever grow on me.
For the first time North America gets the better option with our Si. Both in looks and performance.

Honda wisely chose the 1996 Saturn SL1 as basis for their 2007 model! The timeless lines of the Saturn will surely live forever!

PLEASE.... don't compare a Honda to an ugh Saturn...
I do agree however this car is not the best choice Honda could have made for a hatch.... BUT some designs just grow on you. When I worked for Acura in 93-94 the new Integra came out with the projector headlights... remember that wild design? OUTCRY! We had hate calls coming in at the dealership yet some people loved the change BUT still Japan got the old 90-93 styling.
It will grow on you and others as well. Oddly I find the best looking hatch ever was made by..... FORD.... yes the Focus in my opinion has the nod for the cleanest stylish lines of any hatch... and trust me I am only a Honda guy.;)
Would like to see a new CRX from Honda... Forget the Civic hatch alltogether!:D

We need to remember that these are 2 different markets... Honda doesn't sell that hatch here because we don't like it. Europe/Japan eats this stuff up, look at all of the other hatches over there. We've told them we don't like hatches when they made the EP3 hatch, they gave us the most powerful Civic ever and we didn't buy it. If I recall the last year's sales in Canada were somewhere in the 120-150 range! And conversely, they've never had a use for the coupe in the Japan due to it's impracticality. We're now on the 4th generation of Civic coupe in North America and Japan hasn't had one!
I do agree that we currently have the best cars in NA with the Civic Si Coupe and Sedan.

There was an outcry because that was the ugliest design choice ever (next to the Subaru bug eyes). The JDM Integra front end look 10000000 times better!

Fella from Japan told me the USDM headlight conversion was popular over there, too. Go figure.

J-Bo handles himself a bit better there than Pizzonia did when he demonstrated that Jag S-type (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2UNLh6He9I).

"Oh... so that's where BMW sent Chris Bangle!"
Being someone who has a spoiler in the middle of my view all of the time, that one doesn't seem to be in a bad position. Mine blocks the roof lights and stealthy antennas of OPP cars. ;-)
2800 lbs... not bad! Should be fun to toss around indeed.

With the exception of the 7 series I have liked everything Chris Bangle has done. Although he was promoted upstairs 3-4 years ago and Adrian Van Hooydonk is BMW's design chief. The new M coupe is the best looking car on the road today for under $100K.

I think the styling isn't too bad. The shape kinda reminds me of the Peugot 206. But, whats with the torsion beam rear suspension? It seems like Honda is moving backwards and ruining the great ride quality and handling of previous Civics.

a beam would yield greater comfort, as i stated in my first post, a rear beam acts as a pretty stiff swaybar, meaning you can already run softer spring rates and increase comfort for a very very small cost compared to an IRS setup while increasing trunk space and decreasing amount of things that "could go wrong"

There's nothing majorly wrong with a rear beam, as long as you can still adjust the alignment. Just think of it as a really big rear anti-sway bar :D

Can you spot the guys that drive cars with rear beams?

you need shims for that, not much in the way of on the spot adjusting.

nowdays you wont find a fast street car that is sub 2800 that wont break the bank. (new that is)
so you sorta have to get used to the increase in weight.

The Insight was ahead of it's time, it used a rear twist beam suspension 7 years before the civic Type R :p

That's horrible. I guess I will be living in the past as long as I can. Or buying a Yaris.
