King of the Hill schedule up!

Well the 2003 schedule is up on Delaware Speedway's web site. They've added another on for this year for a tortal of 5 events.

I'm going to have to try that this year. I don't think I want to drive to Delaware Speedway but Barrie Speedway has King of the Hill at every event. That should be close enough to drive to on R compounds. Although running against the cocky racing guy or the shoebox would be worth the drive.

Barrie Speedway has a driving school, I think it is a one day course. It consists of some class time and a minimum of 50 laps in one of those dwarf cars. That sounds like a blast. I'd like to check that out also.

Hey Brent,I ran my 87 crx si at the Barrie king of the hill 4 times a few years ago,got 2nd the first time against a new camaro ss and won the next 3 straight.
I don't know how delaware does their's but Barrie's is one lap side by side standing start winner goes on the loser goes home.Peterbough speedway also runs em but they start on opposite sides of the track and are timed to declare the winner.
I stopped running after the last win because some knuckle dragging redneck driving a firebird in the semi's tried to plant me into the inside armco after he jumped the start and I was trying to get under him coming up out of turn 2.
Just a word of caution as i'd hate to see someone i know get hurt while showing what a well set-up and well driven sport compact is capable when compared to old monty carlos with 20 Degrees -camber!

The Delaware format is the same as Barrie's, but no prize money. And yes it is by far the most dangerous motorsport I've ever done. I personally think the chances of getting seriously hurt are low. The walls are hard, but they prevent rollovers and you usually glance off them. The chances of wrinkling your car, however, are quite good.

Hey Marsh,I've seen a couple of those "glancing" blows when someone forgets that their american iron can't turn,they walked away but the cars had WAY more than a wrinkle on the door(writeoffs with no insurance coverage).
I have no problem with a little rubbing,but thats going into a corner with someone I know and have raced with before and not some cowboy that spent a little to much time at the beer tent before signing up for king of the hill.

Oh I have no delusions about it being safe. I'm just saying that I don't really fear for my life. But yes it's only a matter of time before some drunk hillbilly writes off the Prelude. That's why I'm looking for a dedicated track car that will be capable of ripping Pat a new one.

There have actually been ocassions in the past when someone has intentionally tried to hit Pat.

I can relate to your relative comfort in your safety,it doesn't cross my mind either when I stap into the ice racer,even though I've had countless minor incidents and a couple of really nasty roll overs(you might of noticed I'm a little aggressive?)allmost had another one last weekend in the alltrac!

You're right; I can't afford to write off the Prelude. But King of the Hill is sort of a WOSCA right of passage around here. It was kind of a case of; if I wanted to shoot my mouth off about domestics then I was going to have to back it up somewhere. Now I'm just addicted and couldn't quit if I wanted. Door-to-door racing is like worse than crack. But I also think I've learned way more doing KOTH than I have doing Solo-2 the last 2 years. It's done wonders for my confidence levels. The really stupid thing is that the reason I don't do Solo-1 is because I can't afford to wreck the lude.

Let me get this straight Marsh. You drive fender to fender around a concrete surrounded bullring with no roll cage and a competitor who may never have been on any racetrack before right beside you but you think SOLO 1 is too dangerous ???!!!! I tnink what you really like is the audience or maybe it is just the fact that the other yahoos make you look good by you consistantly beating them. As a SOLO 1 fan I would say come out to where the competition is real ( and the risk of injury is less).

Dave I never said that I think Solo-1 is dangerous. I do at least 3 lapping days a year and I've competed in a couple of regional Solo-1 events. I'm admitting it's ironic that I do this but not solo-1. And yes the audience is nice, but the media exposure is nicer. I've been written up in the local paper and had a radio interview over King of the Hill. How many times have you appeared in media for Solo? I'm currently using KOTH as leverage to try and secure some sponsorship. BTW there are several Solo people that compete in KOTH around here. Plus there are usually 3 or 4 regular oval drivers that have the night off competing as well.

FYI, 'Inside Track' is planning to expand on their Solo 1 coverage considerably this year, including articles that do more than simply summarize the event results. They want their readers to get a stronger sense of what Solo 1 is all about, how it feels to be a competitor, etc. This should help boost the profile of Solo 1 and potentially allow competitors featured in these articles to gain some sort of sponsorship support.

I don't know if KOTH is necessarily any more dangerous than Solo 1...speeds are probably less overall, you just have the risk of some guy who may or may not be willing to trade paint with you (which it sounds like Marshall is :) )

There is just as much hazard in a Solo 1 day, and quite possibly even moreso in an open lapping day or driving school where you get significantly more track time.

All things considered, I'd be inclined to attend a day or two of KOTH; looks like fun, and there is no substitute for actual wheel to wheel racing.

They should cover an auto cross or better a Pro solo.

Ryan, they did cover the Top Gun Shoot-Out and I'm sure if somebody from the Solo 2 community stepped up to the plate and wrote some articles they'd be more than happy to publish them. I doesn't make a lot of financial sense for them to send a paid reporter to Solo events, since articles on these grassroots level sports won't likely grow their readership much, but they have been extremely supportive of Solo 1 and have published pretty much everything we've been able to produce for them.

Take a few digi pics, use a 'Spellchecker', and you never know...you just may be a published writer! :)

Don't count on Inside track to further your cause.It's a fan mag,not a racers mag.They covered my home track with brutal innefficiency for two years before I cancelled.They may cover the top class,and not much more.

Insidetrack has been and will continue to be a supporter of grassroots level motorsport.The catch is YOU have to present them with material worth the print space.

I can kinda relate to you thinking about the added exposure Marsh,you can be seen by more people in one night than an entire season of solo spectators.
I've been featured in 2 different tv news deals,one for koth and one for ice racing and several writeups in the local papers(of course I have to pressure the writers)but so far no movie deals.:D
