I'm wondering what the limits of OE is when talking about different packages/models or the same base car?

I have a 97 Golf K2 and I'm wondering if OE is limited to the package that my car came with (the K2 stuff) or if it includes all the other packages (cl, trek, gl, gti) for the 4 cyl golf.

Part 2 - If OE/Stock includes all factory setups and options for that car, does it count against me (points or otherwise) to use stock or factory options from another package on my car? (like GTI brakes or suspension)

Thanks :)

Yes it count's against you. Take the Preludes for example. The SRV (big motor) was only available with a sun roof. You cannot take an SR, install the big motor and call it an SRV. You are not allowed to pick and chose the options that suit the car, no matter how unimportant they seem. Anything that differs from the way it came off the boat is a modification. This includes dealer options as well.

Cool, that clarifies that.

Another question then. for shocks, I read you can use any shock absorber that keeps everything OE...what shocks will do this? I've heard bilstein HD, but nothing else...are there other shocks that fit the bill? I'm tempted to see if there is an adjustable one (soft-firm , not height) available so I can enjoy my car on weekends and race day but not destroy it while driving on the country road known as the 401.

Koni, Tokico (sp), Tein all make adjustable shocks that can be used in a Stock classed car with no prep points.

Shocks are a freebee

I always read the rule as: If it takes the oe spring, with oe ride height and no other parts need to be modified to mount it, then it's legal.
