All cars are required to meet a max of 90db for starters. All cars can take advantage of a cat back exhaust which is free of prep points.Pre 1992 cars can remove the cats.A header is not an allowed mod and therefore subject to a 1 prep point penalty.
Hope this helps

so, by that logic, straight pipes on a new mustang arent allowed correct?
also, do they measure the decibles in car or at a certain amount of distance?

The rules only state that the measurement shall be from a public area,at a safe distance and location.
And I kinda doubt that strait pipes on anything would be legal for noise, even if the cats stay in place if required.Although my turbo ice racer with no cat resonater or muffler would be borderline(the turbo keeps the exhaust pretty quiet)

What consitutes a safe distance and location? I attended the PITL series a couple times last year, I think the loudest car was a Neon? Just asking, cause my wastegates dump to open air and I don't want to get kicked out from my very first event.

The 91 Stang with straight pipes apparently only pegged 78dB at TMP.

From a 'Safe Distance and Location'? Judging by the first video on your website I will be very close to your sound level. So much for Solo II in populated areas.

when it says that you are allowed to remove exhaust plumbing, does this mean you dont need any exhaust pipes?

I don't see the anwser to your question Andrew,in the ice race rules it say that the exhaust has to exit beyond the bodywork and behind the driver.Don't see such a requirement for solo 2.

i have been trying to find out if you are allowed to run with no exhaust. meaning no cat, no resonator and no muffler for a free flow... and it was either under super stock or street prepared that i saw something about "being allowed modify or remove exhaust plumbing". does that refer to exhaust pipes? my little pea brain has been working overtime trying to figure this out...

Catback exhaust is a free mod in any class.
Removal of cat costs points, headers cost points...
Although either of those my move you into SP I don't have the rule book in front of me.

I know in Solo 1 you can remove the cats in a 1992? or earlier model car.
Not sure if Solo 2 has the same allowable-mod or not.
But yeah ultimately you need to be within limits of the noise rule.

In the stock classes the cat can be modified(not removed)as long as the system meets the current emission laws.
In super stock the cat(s)can be removed on 1992 or older cars.
In street prepared the cat(s)can be removed on any year car.
There is no prep points for removing the cat(s)either its an allowed mod or not allowed,if the car is newer than 1992 then removing the cat is only allowed if you run in sp,older than 1992 you can run in ss if removed.
