you need to OWN a porsche to play with them

http://www.casc.on.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=7040&highlight=porsche

(the thread was about a guy with a V8 swap in his 944 and some didn't feel his car should be there)

but it'd be nice if more POOrsche cars made it out... most are only interested in club lapping events

the mumbojumbo was here.. but they resolved it somehow

We had planned on attending some events in 2005 with my 911 and the scirocco but scheduling conflicts with regionals prevented it. I was told the scirocco would be welcomed.

I was told yes, but we were both PCA members.

They are such snobs there, I have been up around Mosport a couple times the past few years and I would notice that there were cars on the track so I would drive in and just want to watch and I would get turned around because I am not a member and obviously I don't drive one. Like I don't understand there only Porsches I am not out there to do any damage to them or there cars that I see hundreds of on the road. All I want to do is go there and watch cars go around the track in the spring and enjoy the fresh cool air. Apparently the BMW guys are alot cooler :)

It is not fair to group everyone in the same boat. A few years back we asked about attending a BMW autox event in Concord and we were told we were not welcomed.

I know that, have you seen the lot they use?

Yes SCIEX (previous name) was a customer of ours so I know it fairly well. It's a really small lot so no great loss on our part. But what's with the elitism? They think they are better because of what they drive. I loose respect for people/clubs quickly when they have that attitude.

okay, I do agree that the elitist rules are rather stupid (ie engine swaps of non-porsche orgin devalue the brand and are not allowed)

What I really want to know is if you are required to drink Chardonnay and keep your cheese on your melba toast while making a run or if there is some decent competition.

People who spend $80 - 150k on their "racing heritage" cars... dislike being beat in a $3500 prepped neon.

Just a fact.

Sorry folks,

I have to take exception to the claim within this thread that Trillium BMW autocrosses are elitist events. For the record, the events are held for the benefit of our members and are not intended to be either high speed or ultra competitive. We present the autocrosses on the premis that they are a good place to come out to meet with fellow members and toss your car about. We keep track of times due to the natural competiveness of the event. All participants work towards a year end trophy in their class.

While the lot is not the largest, MDS Sciex has been extremely generous in allowing us to use their property. Anyone who has done the rounds trying to convice business owners or managers to allow a bunch of car guys use their lots will realize what a prize we have in our long term association with MDS Sciex.

The size of the lot has the added benefit of keeping the speed down and making for challenging courses that are safe and fun. We aren't looking for fast speeds on our courses. Members who want that will move up to regional events or take it to the track.

We currently do not open our events to non-members because of insurance (what else?). Proposed solutions are welcomed. Anybody is able to join our club and can do so simply by going back to the 'Affiliated Clubs' link on the main CASC-OR page. Members drive everything at our events from Echos to Subarus to Vipers to BMWs.

Please don't even think of Trillium as being elitist until you have visited one of our events and said Hello.

Respectfully,
Doug Cope

Corvette club used to be the same many years ago. Then some good drivers from regional competition bought Corvettes and things changed.

A multiple BMW club slalom champion is a WOSCA member and lives in London. He actually dissapproves of their methods as much as anyone else I've met. He was also shocked when he participated with us with the actual CASC rules. Apperently the BMW organizers were telling him that they were using CASC rules, but they were putting him in completely the wrong class and using some BS pax numbers.

Marshall,

Trillium uses SCCA rules pulled down off the SCCA website at the beginning of each season along with the pax numbers that are published at the beginning of the season. This information is communicated to all participants both verbally and in our documentation. Check out the Trillium website and look under autocross:

www.trillium-bmwclub.ca

As I've said previously, please don't judge us until you've come out to visit. Your vague references to our London area participant (I know who you're talking about) do nothing to foster goodwill either within the club or within CASC ranks.

I had a great time at the November 12 event that I attended last year. I never thought I'd see such a variety of cars there, but it was fantastic.

A variety of BMW's, Stock to modified M3's, 540, a variety of years and prep levels of 3-series cars
Mini, Cooper S, and a JCW Edition
Subaru
VW
Mazda
Volvo

And here's where it gets interesting...
The Alfa won!
Mercedes Benz
Porsche 911 (with a fantastic driver!)
Fiat!

More variety than the regionals! (Which I also enjoy, BTW, don't take that as criticism.)

Yeah, there's some gates that aren't ASN / CASC regional legal width, but it really challenged my precision. I couldn't believe how wide my car felt that day! (And I think my fellow club members had to clean up 8 gates on one of my runs...) It was all second gear for me after the 90 degree launch that hampered the AWD benefit. A TLMC style high speed flowing slalom, tight bus stop, accelerating into a sweeper that then tightens... it was a VERY challenging course.

Not for everyone, but aside from Bracebridge, it was my favourite and most memorable event of the year.

Hey guys...

I was part of the crew that originally renewed the PCA UCR Auto-X afew years ago. At the time it was our intent to give priority to PCA Members (driving any car they want!) and if PCA members could not fill-up the event we would allow anyone to enter. We where not heavily focused on serious competition, rather we just wanted to provide a place for people to get together and enjor thier cars. Serious attitudes, snobs, and jerks where not welcome and we actually asked a few Porsche Club members to leave with a full refund because of thier lack of patience with beginners, or thier complaints about non-Porsche owners/non-PCA members running...

Well, insurance issues for the club killed the idea of letting non-PCA members to run and I backed out. So before you think it is because they are all snobs think that there may be other reasons for not letting people run...

Would CASC let you run an event if you are not a CASC club member? Only on exception.

Hopefully you guys don't paint all Porsche owners and drivers with the same brush. I am willing to bet most of you have spent more $$$ on your cars then me!!

One more thing, the club is filled with a fair number of snobs, jerks, and know-it-all elitiste morons. There are also a large amount really good, honest, friendly Porsche owners.

My mileage varies,
P

Sorry for the general statement there, I just felt annoyed that I couldn't stay and watch the Porsche lapping/school weekend. I know the feeling of being an open minded person(most of the time) and coming from a group that thinks there generally the best. So sorry to any Porsche owners out there that are actually nice people, I know I have met a few.

I understand why you would feel that way... it is a dumb rule. Depending on who is working the gate they would have let you in... sorry you had that experience.

Next time just make up a name and say that they invited you... or better yet look at the PCA UCR website and use a name of the Track Chair or something...

cheers,
Patrick
