hi guys,
i am heading up a new committee thats focus is to ....

1= find out what hard good assets our sport needs now....or might need in the future.

2=poll the solo 1 members to find what they think we need.

3=find out what these assets will cost to procure...

4=put together our findings for the OSO and solo 1

i need some volunteers to work on this committee with me.....it will involve several meetings, and some research

please e-mail me if you are interested....
thank you

Adam, maybe you should try directly e-mail specific people who you think might be strong advocates for this idea? I'd volunteer, but I'm already have so many motorsports-related commitments that I don't think signing up for anything else at this point is a good idea.

Another possibility could be considered - perhaps our 'capital' assets are perceived as largely satisfactory 'as is'. Timing and scoring at Solo events has been pretty reliable for many years and much better than at regional road races.

Perhaps when you are polling the solo competitors for what they think they need you might ask them how much they are prepared to pay for what they think they need.

Triple R.
This is what Adam is trying to address. There are many people who would be pleased to have a timing system ,communal equipment etc, that can be shared amongst the clubs.
Last year we had many timeing problems due to wind that affected the running of a weekend.
There are clubs that are haves and are clubs that are have nots.
Spending money (large) on a dinner that few grass roots people attend and neglecting the true need of the sport seems sad.
I believe what Adam wants to set up is a system where everyone has a say in what happens to the monies collected and how best to spend it.

I say it is time for some change!

The problem with *communal* capital assets is that they have a tendency to go missing (if they are desirable items), or they tend to go unused, if they are largely undesirable items.

Also, one needs to figure out what the sport could actually benefit from, in order for it to grow. Things like timing equipment are a necessity in this sport, however, things like weigh scales, pyrometers etc, are not (they are typically in the realm of individual competitors, not the group as a whole).

Things like radios, flags, etc are all helpful to the sport (which I believe the Solo crowd already has).

Unless you're planning on weighing EVERY car at EVERY event, picking up a set of corner scales doesn't really add to the benefit of Solo 1 much.

Remember, each capital asset has to be paid for somehow, which generally means the fees for each weekend are forced to go up.

Just a thought, from somebody who's been through all of this several times before....
