Let's say one has a 86 944 turbo, with half cage, sparco seats, toyo's, etc...How would I get into vintage racing and what tracks are used for this series? It, as well, is a daily driver...So what class would I be in ?

Derek, if one were to race such a car, it would be placed in G70, where cars up to 1987 are currently accepted. It would race with 3 or 4 other 944's in that class as well as a number of other cars.

You would need to upgrade the safety system to include a full cage with side double door bars, NASCAR style, as well as a front hoop and lateral bar under the dash. Also you will need an on board fire safety system, window net, master cut-off switch, appropriate seat and safety belts. You will not need to install a fuel cell, although it is a good idea.

You can look up the requirements on www.casc.on.ca under rules and regs for the GT class as they are the same as the VARAC requirements or at www.varac.ca. If you have questions email me at twr9@execulink.ca
Good luck

Oh yeah, you can race at Mosport, Shannonville, Calabogie, probably Tremblant as well HSR in the US will likely accept this car, so that opens up just about every other track you can think of.

Fuel Cell and Fire Suppression system are NOT required under CASC Tech Rules, which are the "final word" on safety and car prep for any events run in the Ontario region, regardless of class.

Not sure why timewarp9 keeps telling people they need a Fire Suppression System....

I'm sure DEK (Dave King) will verify the above for you.

 not running a fire system is foolish plain and simple, if its in the rules or not, safety should be the only thing on anyones mind getting ready for racing. Beleive it or not race cars catch on fire often enough( can`t count how many cars I have put out, some didn`t know they were burning), even if you strap a 5lb dry chem in reach is better than nothing:)

Jordan, VARAC administer the G70 + Rules. VARAC can specify most anything they want as safety requirements above what are reguired for a Sprint GT car.

The reason Timewarp9 keeps telling people that fire suppression systems are required is because Rule 16.2.2 under Safety Requirements says that they are required for all G70 cars. As pointed out in another thread, check the rules on www.varac.ca to ensure you meet the requirements.

We ran a car in G70 last year without a fire system.

I can name 5 or 6 others who did the same.

Was the fire system rule modified for 2007?
We aren't running in G70 this year so I haven't looked at the 2007 rule book.

AFB Race, I wasn't questioning the value of a fire system, but thanks for your viewpoint on them.

Did you guys run CASC clubsport or under G70?

Since G70 started, CASC and G70 have been trying to get the rules sorted out. Please ensure that if you are running G70 to have an on-board fire suppression system. My apologies for not making it more clear.

:) Jordan I hope you weren`t offended by my comments, to me it just seems logical to have one even if the rules say you don`t need it, to many uncontrolled variables in racing.:)

Only selected vehicles (older than 1982) are required to run a fuel cell. Others have the option of running the stock tank.

I ran G70 last year in a 1986 car and I had to run a fuel cell this is a Vintage rule

Interesting.
Like the fire system, there were numerous cars running G70 last year without fuel cells.
Have the G70 rules changed for 2007?

Re 2007 G70+ Regulations. VARAC have posted the 2007 G70+ Regulations on their web site. The regulations are dated April 7/2007. There are a number of changes to make the G70+ safety rules more in-line with CASC "sprint" regulations. I believe the requirement for on-board fire suppression is still in the 2007 G70+ regulations.
Rather than me trying to find the changes, they are there for all to read.
