UofT Press is publishing a new history of motorports in Canada called "The Chequered Past". Info here:http://www.utppublishing.com/pubstore/merchant.ihtml?pid=8831&step=4
and a review by the Globe & Mail here:http://www.globeauto.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20070301.wh-NBauthor-0301/GAStory/specialGlobeAuto/.

They claim it's the first comprehensive history of motorsports in Canada, but I have a book by Len Coates called "Challenge!" and subtitiled "The story of Canadian road racing" published in 1970 which covers from 1950 to 1970. On the other hand, Coates' book is more of a popular anecdotal history while the new book is probably more scholarly and therefore more detailed and with better prime sources. In any event, from the review in the Globe, it looks like a "must buy". I think I'll get a copy and do a review in one of my "Chequered Flag/Black Flag" rants in "The Link" (MCO newsletter).

 That's the name of the WOSCA news letter... although we haven't published one in well over 12 years... never the less!

Lookin' to get a copy myself. Wonder if they'll have all the details on how Bernie had the old CASC kicked outa the FIA, and turned the country into a motor racing backwater. Or maybe fiefdom's a better word. I dunno.

Anyway, fun times.

Actually, it's titled "The Chequered Past: Sports Car Racing and Rallying in Canada, 1951 - 1991". The author is a professor from the University of New Brunswick and an active ARMS memeber: http://armsinc.ca/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=4955
