Does anyone have experience using a tow bar with an eg hatch?
My question is where do i attach the anchor points on the civic?
do i have to cut out the bumber cover?
suggestions?

Do a google search for blue ox tow bars or brake buddy.
They often have a pdf of the installation of towbars on specific cars. You may be able to see where they attach.

i looked at the instructions of the reese model,
it has 2 brackets that need to be mounted to the bumper.
im wondering if i have to cut out the bumper cover to install these brackets.
the diagram shows a bare bumper support.
anyone with personal experience?

If you don't want to put holes in the plastic bumper you can always remove the plastic bumper when towing the car.

does anybody know what exactly is required when towing a car with a toe bar?
found this on the HTA but dont really know what it means.
Attachments required when vehicle drawn on highway
80. (1) No motor vehicle, other than a motor vehicle in which there is a person licensed to drive a motor vehicle on a highway, trailer or other object or device shall be drawn by a motor vehicle or farm tractor on a highway unless there are two separate means of attachment so constructed and attached that the failure of one such means will not permit the motor vehicle, trailer, object or device being drawn to become detached; but this section does not apply to a trailer, object or device attached or coupled to the towing vehicle by means of a fifth wheel attachment or to a trailer or other object or device when drawn directly across a highway by a farm tractor. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 80.
the car i will be towing will not be plated or insured.
i assume i need lights but do i need plates of any kind?

I dunno about plates as the last time I flat-towed a race car was in 1969, but the two attachment systems usually are a ball hitch and safety chains (just like a trailer). And yes, you will have to rig up rear lights including brakes and turn signals, but I think there's an adapter now available to use the lights on the towed car.

We tow a 2006 Civic with a tow bar. We don't have a plate on it and haven't had any problems yet. I actually called the MTO to confirm, and they compared it to towing a cement mixer. No plate needed.
We've wired the existing signal lights to work from the trailer harness.
If you're towing a long distance, you may want to remove the accessory fuse so you don't drain your battery with the key in ACC. We were also thinking of wiring the 12V from the tow vehicle to the civic, but haven't gotten around to it yet. If its a race car only, you can always remove the steering lock I suppose.

Ice racers tow their race cars with other small cars all the time.
A daily driven chevette towing an icer racer chevette comes to mind

Back in the eighties when I was flat towing a Civic ice racer, I used an old ski rack with some trailer lights mounted to it.Then I ran the wiring down the windshield, under the hood, out the grill and plugged in to the tow vehicle.

Princess Auto sells an adjustable A-Frame bar for $130. I'm pretty sure that's the one that FliptEG was using on his '92-'95 Civic.
