Hi folks,
I'm new to the forum and to solosprint - I am registered for this years driver development days taking place at Mosport May12-13, and was hoping that some of you vetrans could chime in as to what I should bring to the event besides the obvious - car, hemet proof of payment/registration. I have a pile of Questions and apologize for the first long post and any stupid questions:eek:
When I attended the CSC open house I spoke with a few individuals who helped me prepare with the following items:

-12V air pump for adjusting tire pressure and a tire p.guage,
-torque wrench
-small 'tool' kit
-extra brake fluid and bleeding kit

What else?

I was also told that in the past some participants who came from far distances camped overnight!

I read through a previous post that delt with the breakdown of events - class, skid pad, track time, but I have not come across any threads doing a search that help prepare the newbie for the event. With the skid pad - is the surface that we drive on wet?

I know that the event is taking place at the D.D.track - but I have never been there - where do I go once I arrive at Mosport? What happens if there is inclement weather? Rain for example?
Any insight would be appreciated.:)
TIA
-Andrew

The DDT is the first entrance once you turn onto the Mosport "road" - I think it says "Bridgestone series" or something like that. You'll drive across the skid pad area to a parking lot (you'll see the white canteen on top of the knoll)

There's really nothing to prepare for (the itinerary is all mapped out for you once you get there) other than get your car in good shape and basic maintenance... keep an open mind and listen to the great advice you'll get from some great instructors!

I think it goes rain or shine... which isn't as bad as it sounds. The first school I went to (before the Solo 1) the instructor's hoped it would rain as it would really teach you car control (and it did, and I did) but it's more fun in the dry!

Have fun, relax, and enjoy! (you will)

SUNSCREEN AND WATER!

There were coffee and donuts last year, but these are not suitable sustainance for the driving you'll be doing. Bring extra snacks to eat through the day.

I will be camping there the whole weekend. I brought a tent with me last year, some people drive their camper to the track. If the weather is good we could have a fire and a few... sodas.

Thanks for the insight.
I spoke/emailed Ana, and she mentioned that there will be an itinerary provided a few days before the actual event.:) with driving instructions etc....
I'm not too far from the track - Etobicoke area, and will drive to the facility, but am thinking to camp overnight. Who do I call to reserve a camp site - the track or?..
Besides this, anything else that I should bring along?
TIA

Just bring your camping stuff, camping is free.

Yeah, its kinda weird... Mosport is actually the best campground I"ve ever been to. Its the cheapest, has the fewest rules, and everyone's cool because they're all there for the same reason. (Except the drunk guy ripping around the track in the middle of the night).

Camping at the DDT can be an adventure... is there any circle-track racing that weekend? My 'camp ground' became a parking lot one saturday night.

Anyway... there's a field beside the track. just show up, drop a tent and you're set.

My 'camp ground' became a parking lot one saturday night. Its best to camp between the paved area and the DDT road course. Leave the grassy area nearest the circle track for the Saturday night folks.

Well here is my 2 cents.

Water and snacks
A spare Can of Gas is always handy, you can be very surprised how much you can use in a day.
Long sleeved clothing that fits the weather and then something for the rain. Mosport has a tendency to have it's own unique climet.
Try to camp or stay near buy for the school and the event. You will be surprised how tired you are after a full day concentrating in the car.
I have found that a CAA membership can be handy just in-case!

Don't forget a Helmet, open mind and you will be ready to enjoy some of the best instruction around, the most friendly group of folks that you have ever run into. Ask questions, make new friends and blow your mind on what your car and you can do on the track!

Awsome!!

O.K.
So I have received my info package and am even more excited...
This may sound like a dumb question, but most of you guys have suggested to bring some things along, like extra food, jerry can of gas, etc... If you can't keep it in your car while it is being used, where do you leave your stuff? Are there lockers, or are you given a quasi 'pit'....
If i bring a small rubermaid tote, to keep my stuff together and organized, where would I leave it?
TIA

Edit. I did some surfing...
Found the Saab owner's club had some useful info - take a look here: http://www.saabclubofcanada.ca/school/drivers/packlist and here: http://www.saabclubofcanada.ca/node/76 and although not totally applicable some good info/links on this page: http://www.saabclubofcanada.ca/school/ddc/faq

Welcome aboard!

When you get there and park your car, you just leave your stuff beside or behind your car and that becomes your pit area. Bring a tarp to cover your items in the event of rain.

What Chuck said.

Check the photo gallery for the school from 2005, and you'll see some pictures of how people park and unload. Sort of.
