The 2x4 snow shovels saved the day;)
hi guys,
so everything is going according to plan..one car lift (forward 7000lb model) has already been purchased, and is now delivered to the shop...a second lift(rotary 7000lb model) is being purchased this week and will be delivered to the shop this week...so the shop now has 2 car lifts...it is still on schedule for being 100% up and running june 1

Adam, I guess you're going to have to revise the floor plan from Option C to one of the two lift plans Moose laid out for you?
yep....
i think the other lift will be in the same area...but angled...
OR
have them both tandem one behind one another?
hmm.....will have to wait and see when they are being erected..

You don't really want to have them one behind the other, as that means the car in front is ALWAYS subject to delays when waiting for the car behind to be removed first.
How about where the Option C writing is on your pic? Or, at an angle close to where the first lift is installed, assuming you have reasonable space for both lifts, and people to get in between them.
As well, you'll want to leave enough room between the lifts such that a trolley jack can be used to lift the car off the arms of the hydraulic lift (yes, it's occasionally necessary). Since many cars are lowered / custom suspension, getting the clearance to fit the lift arms underneath can be an issue. If the lifts don't have enough side clearance, you'll never get a jack underneath from the side (and jacking up from the rear / front isn't always a viable option, depending upon the car).
Just a couple of suggestions, as I've run into such issues once or twice before....

i think where "Option C" is writin a HUGE freggin door is located there
I don't think having them one in front of the other is a big problem. Rick's shop, RT Motorsport, is set up exactly like this. All he does is raise the car on the back lift up high enough that the car that was on the front lift can drive underneath. But this can could prove inconvenient if the car on the back lift is being worked on at the time that the car on the front lift wants to get past, so if you've got the space you may as well set things up so that you don't have to worry about this situation.
i am planning may 17 and 18 to be the big weekend to install the 2 car lifts at Ontario Race Fabrication up in alliston..
any help would be welcome, if you can help either of those days please advise, thanks..

thanks to the guys who came out and helped,
we got alot done, the 5000sq ft floor is now very clean..ok not to the point you can eat off it...but clean enough that you can sit on it :) most of the lights have been replaced (a few ballests need to be replaced still but we will get to that), the security system is installed and working and all the locks are now installed. we ran tons of armoured wire...8-3 for the high draw items, and 12-3 for the rest of the equipment......this saturday may 10 we rented a hoist to lift the car hoists into a vertical position...so the lifts will be installed this coming saturday...other than that ORF is on schedule to be open an accepting members june 1.
a special thanks to alexb, philip, kelvin, and aj who came and helped erect the 2 car hoists this weekend...we got alot done....both hoists are now working, and the shop is pretty much completed..we worked on it both saturday and sunday and it is coming along great..100% for sure it will open june 1...
good work, guys! You picked an interesting Solo 1 event to miss. The rain was off and on most of the day, though my run group did get 2 close to dry runs along with one mildly wet but greasy run and 1 really wet run (lots of standing water). The other run group got screwed by the weather...I think all of their runs were in the wet including an insanely heavy downfall that lasted about half an hour and left puddles 6'' deep or more in places, not to mention heavy thunder and lightning. Nutty day!
lucky i opted out on sunday...i hate the rain ...so how were your times?
my times were pretty good...I did 57 flat in the morning warm up on street tire pressures and my shocks on full soft, so I'm sure the car has mid 56's or better in it and I haven't used all the PIPs I can in my class (yet). With a chipped ECU and a high flow cat or maybe a header I should get down into the low 56's.
My FTD during the event was 57.9, which I'm a bit disappointed in since the track was pretty close to dry during that set of laps. I should have done better, but I was driving pretty safely since we had several cars go off into the tire barriers in turn 1 and turn 5. Thankfully only minor cosmetic damage resulted from these offs, but I really didn't want to add to the list so I drove pretty conservatively, as I think most of the veterans did. Alec ended up with a 58 flat and Krispy beat both of us with a 57.8...that cheeky monkey! Ken Lau (new HADA member with the black RSX Type S) set FTD for the day with a 56 flat, with Christian not too far behind in the high 56's.
I'll post a full event review on the HADA site later today with pictures and all that fun stuff :) And I'll link it to this messageboard in a new thread.

Adam,
I'm definitely interested in spots for 1 race car (storage and shop use, 240z), with an additional payment for the ability / right to work on a second car (my BMW race car).
Get in touch with me so I can arrange to drop off the application form, and whatever necessary funds you need to close the deal.
Thanks,
Pat
