help me choose on the "best" autocross pad out there...
i did a search, and didnt find anything useful.
last year i threw in some EBC red's w/brembo x-drilled rotors on the front of my car.
i noticed a very big difference over stock, especially wear and dust (greatly reduced).
anyhow, i wanna acheive some serious stopping power for this year.. and since my rears are warped, and think its time to change them.
i was gonna change all 4 rotors to EBC greens and on track days, swap them out for the EBC reds.
reds are supposed to be for solo1 (and heavier cars), but they do not bite as hard as greens.
should i go with the greens all the way arround? or is there a better autocross pad?
thanks.

Andrew......get rid of the cross drilled rotors, get some stock rotors and a set of Hawk HP+ pads.
Do you remember the stopping power of my CRX? Yep that's the setup.
Now the question is, do Hawk make brake pads for your Beetle?

i do , but i dont remember at the same time. :)
i know crossdrilled doesnt help with stopping power, and reduces it because of less surface area and worsens heat dissipation.(and they crack, but my brembo's havent yet)
when my brembo's warp, ill change to regular vented (or is slotted ok?).
i dont want to buy all new rotors just yet because im broke (just bought a house).
hawks you say? hmm. i have heard that EBC greens are the "autocross" pad, but that they chew up rotors and warp them.
any specific hawk pad?

I agree cross drilleds aren't that great I had a set and they only lasted about 5 lapping days and a season of autocrosses. I have now gone back to factory pads and rotors(well same as lastyear) they are awesome only because I broke them in properly. I drove like a grand parent for two weeks(no not left foot braking everywhere).

awww, come on.. you mean you went without left foot braking for two weeks????????????

I'd stay away from the EBC pads. You'll be MUCH better off with the Hawks.
How much are you paying for rotors anyway? You should be able to pick up a pair of about $150 or so no?

What is it about EBC's that people seem to not like them at all?

Andrew,
If you want to remain in the good books with the HADA populace do not mention Volkswagon in the same sentence with Honda!
If you happen to have a Honda (wifes maybe) you are welcome to join.
We do indeed have members that race non Honda products, but that is their problem.
One Nissan driver comes to mind.
About the EBC pads, although i have never tried them i have only heard negative comments about them.
Hawke pads (for our purpose) rule the school.

Andrew,
d00d I have done a grand total of 2 autox events, 0 lapping, 0 schools, 0 solo1's :( I think I win the newbe contest for now!;)
This year I hope to change things.
I have EBC pads and slotted rotors on now and to be quite honest, I think they are a little better than stock but not that much! Like Alex says Hawks and Brembo OEM rotors seem to be the cats a$$, at least for the hondas. I look forward to trying them.
edit: Hawk HP+ for street / autoX
hawk blues for solo1 / lapping.

Andrew,
We have EBC's on the Celica and they are a fine street pad, not sure why dad doesn't put a better pad on. They work ok for SOLO 1 but do overheat quicker then i think they should.
Vdub's in HADA.....well i am the proud owner of this little beast...

The pad that you choose really does depend on what you intend to use it for. HP+ are excellent pads for the autocrossing. They will be pretty good for Solo 1 as well but once heat builds up (which it will) they do get mushy.
Hawk Blues will not fade no matter how hot you get them; at least not if you're just doing solo 1 or lapping. Their longevity in a real racing situation might be different.
With that said, Blues are most likely overkill for autocrossing as you will not get them hot enough and as a result they will just chew up your rotors.

I notice Hawke only has front pads for my car, is this sufficient or should the rear pads be swapped too for Solo 1?

has anyone tried axxis metal masters? (or any of their brake pads?)...
thanks!

The metal master are okay. They are just a tad better than an OEM pad but definitely not track worthy. They'd be okay for autocrossing though. Not great, but definitely usable.

...thanks for the clarification caius :)
...does anyone know a retailer that carries hawk hp+ pads? i've talked to a couple of stores but they don't stock them... then they recommend another brand...etc. etc.. etc...
thanks!

I'd get them to order in a set for your car. If they don't want to do that or say it'll take 8 weeks or something, find a new shop. What city are you in?

i use metal masters on the CRX, mostly because there isn't much in the way of pad selection.
Wear, They seem to wear very well on my car, i'll get a little over a season of SOLO 1 & SOLO 2 on a set plus all my street driving. I really couldn't complian as far as wear goes.
Overheating, nah, not really, they are just fine on the track for my car and driving style even when on the track for 20-30mins.
Preformence, well this is where they let down, They don't have anywhere near the same initial bite as a HawkBlue or other good pads. However i am still able to lock up my brakes whenever so the ultimate braking force is not a issue. Some time on the track is most likely lost here.
Price, $32 for fronts..................what else can i say.

wheres a good place to buy some hawks or EBC's?
no luck yet, and i dont want to go to JRP because they RIP people off big time. trust me, been there done that.
has anybody got any experience with Carbotech Pads.
They are Ceramic Pads and supposedly THE pads to have.
Someone I'd asked about his Carbotech pads told me that he has used them for more then 8K on the track and still have lots of live left. I drove with him on the track and yes, they are just amaizing.
These have incredible good bite even when totally cold and have a temp range up over 1000F, depending on the type.
Very expensive, so I am wondering if they are worth the $500 for a set for front and rear.
