what is the difference between a TIG welder than costs 500 dollars and one that costs 5000 dollars, i dont get it.

If you check the specifications you will probably find differences in
Rated amp output which affects thickness of metal welding
Duty Cycle which determines how much welding you can do in a given time
High frequency and reverse polarity settings, quality of welding unit gas controls etc. also accessories that are sold with the unit.
Lower output with low duty cycle are fine for most racers who want to do light duty welding and can spend the time to wait so the unit does not overheat from stedy use.

just an additional note
If the TIG is Direct Current only it will only weld steel not aluminum or magnesium.
In most cases it is easier to use a MIG for racers and MINI MIGS are reasonable. If you are in the market for a welder if you can find a good used commercial one it will probably serve you better.
