hello
i was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the compatibility of swaybars between honda civics...
i have a '99 civic si without a stock factory rear swaybar and am thinking of putting one on (someone suggested type-r...someone else suggested integra)...
is it a direct bolt-on or is modification required...
also if anyone has any pro or cons that would be great...
(my PI index is putting me up there so i might as well max it out...right?! :D )
thanks much!

I am 95% sure that the sway bar from a Teg will bolt right up but since I'm not I'm not 100% sure I'll leave it up to some of the other guys to verify.
However, assuming that it does bolt right up, your best bet from a dollar/performance perspective is to go with a stock Integra Type-R bar. It's the thickest of the bunch (22mm) and significantly cheaper then an aftermarket bar.
You will need to reinforce the subrame mounting points though. Those who haven't have discovered a few torn subrames due to the force applied on the bar.

Dan,
I have seen instructions like this on-line:
http://geocities.com/bretq/swaybar_install.html
for installing Type-R swaybars into 94-01 Integras and 92-95 Civics so I don't know about a 99 Civic. Your best bet would be Honda-Tech.com.
Good luck,
Thomas

If fabricating reinforcements for your stock mounts is out of the scope of the driveway install, then maybe purchasing an aftermarket bar makes more sense.Comptech sells one with the brace allready-you know it'll be right, neuspeeds bar is a 19mm with no brace. After using the neuspeed bar on my '99SIR I'd recommend a 22mm.
Sometimes you get what you pay for(this comes from the king of ghetto mods though:) )

LOL! ... thanks tom... so many options... :D
... i have heard of many problems with subframe rippage ... even with supports on the mounts.... anyone else have any experience with this?
thanks!

The reinforcements kits that I have seen are really quite simple and look simple enough that even I could fabricate them! Cut steel bar to length and drill four holes - my kind of project.
Now the answer pacivic's question about them being a bullet proof solution ... I don't know, FWIW I hear people claim that they work, and they are supposedly replicating the factory Type-R mounting position. I was hoping to use this to upgrade my stock 19mm rear sway bar to a Type-R 22mm so if you hear anyone having problems with it please let me know!

If the 'Teg bar fits, I might be interested in buying your old one from you, for the right price, provided you let me measure it against my Mirage first. (I don't know if it will fit my car but I know a Civic Del Sol bar will, so it would be interesting to find out.)

I hope you aren't holding your breath, I have to get approval first from the capital acquisition committee and a proper garden shed keeps bumping to the top of the list!
Please keep in mind that I have an Integra RS (Really Slow) and according to my web research stock Integra roll bars are as follows:
Integra Front Rear
RS/LS 22.1 mm 12.9 mm
GSR 24 mm 14.0 mm
Type-R 24 mm 22.0 mm
The Comptech one is also 22.0 mm but the bar is significantly more expensive than the new Type-R part:
http://integramod.tripod.com/
Look under Performance/Rear Sway and Tie Bar.
I have a GSR/Type-R front sway bar safely hidden in the garage but I still need to acquire a Type-R rear bar.
I have seen RS/LS rear bars on e-bay and such and they usually don't go for too much so I never held much hope of selling the stock ones after the upgrade. But if a 12.9 mm rear roll bar is what you are interested in and it fits then far be it from me to not sell it to you when the time comes.
Thomas
Well, Mirages didn't come with one at all on the rear (except in Asia and Europe, of course) so even a 12mm bar would be an upgrade... So let me know if the garden shed gets put in its proper place on the list, haha.
Actually was I directing my post at Pacivic because I read "with a stock rear swaybar" instead of "without a stock rear swaybar" which is what he actaully wrote, doh... But if you have one for sale I would be interested...
