OEM warranties and VIN #

Anyone know how to access the OEM warranty claims on a vehicle if you have the VIN # ?? Ford used to do this easily at the dealership but GM is balking and saying that unless I own the vehicle they will not give me the info but obviously I don't want to BUY the vehicle before seeing what has been done to it already. Sounds like Catch 22 to me.

Mazda didn't give me any troubles when I asked before buying ... I just called the head office customer service line with the vin.

Mazda Canada would not tell me about any warranty work done to my car. They did tell me which dealer did the re-call work and suggested I try to get them to tell me about any warranty work they may have done.
