Wes...
Thanks for posting the regulations, but what's with the Honda on the cover page?

If you needed images of a more impressive vehicle (e.g. Fiero) I would have been happy to oblige :)

See you on Sunday.

Hi Wes, Robb,

I noticed that section 5.2.1 has changed to include home built Lotus Seven type cars. And according to 5.22.3 these cars would run in B-Mod. I ran one event last year in in my seven and I think I mistakenly put myself in A-Mod. Is this car in B-Mod as Rob Magro's car is? I hope to run this car more this year, although it will not be ready for the start of the season and I will be bringing the dwarf out which for sure is A-Mod. I guess another question would be, even if the seven is B-Mod, would I be better running it in A-Mod because I will have points in A-Mod with the dwarf? Or can you switch classes and still accumulate points?

See you guys at the open house,
Ron

For car classes you spelled Vibe wrong. Also if I am allowed a total of 2 points in B2 how many points do I have after I have moved up to B1?

Ryan if you moved to B1 then you'd only be allowed the mods allowed in stock classes, anything beyond that and you'd get to play in BSS with me with a total of another 4 points plus the allowed mods for SS.
Come on up to BSS with Wes and we can do a repeat of last years competitiveness!.

Ok I thought I would have four points since my car is a B2 car. Yeah sure I will move up but only if I get to do something to my car. I have only added my rear sway bar. I might be selling my shocks so maybe I will go for some KYB's with the stock springs. oh and a reclinable racing seat.

As soon as you start claiming points you have to use the step-up rule, or go to SS, SP, or MOD right?

So even a B3 car with 1 point would have to move up to B2, ya/no?

Correct, there are no points allowed in your root class. (unless you have one of the wonky BSS car like half the people on the planet do now.)

Well your right about half the planet running in BSS,at least thats what it seems like when you run in BSS!I'm not whinning-bring it on!
There's some comfort when you've outrun 20+ cars in your class at an event-the hardest part for me last year was trying to outrun the damn Wes and Ryan show!:)

Hi Ron et al;

There has been no change in rule 5.2.1 at least for the last several years. I have a year 2000 rule book in front of me - Lotus 7 " style home finished cars" are able to run in B mod with the same safety equipment as a Stock Class Vehicle provided they are road registered and compete on DOT (or street) tires.

Also, please be aware that when the dwarf car reappears it and the driver(s) must meet all saftey and eligibility requirements for a mod car as outlined in section 2.2.

ASN Canada FIA has convened a Canada wide committee to look at Solo safety due to some unfortunate incidents in other regions.

Ontario has had a stellar safety record and certainly we hope to continue this. For insurance purposes Solo II still has an association with Solo 1which has had several roll over incidents in the past couple of years. Complain as much as you wish but that is reality and we must continue our diligence in holding safe events for competitors, crew and spectators.

We have taken the step of appointing a chief scrutineer to help in assessing car safety and rules adherance. Be aware that at events we will be asking competitors to open hoods and allow inpection of vehicles to ensure we have complience with safety requirements.

I do not want to appear to be a zealot but we have been blessed with a good safety record and I credit the clubs and the competitors with maintaining our high standards. If fact ASN Canada FIA recogzines Ontario Region for it's diligence in maintaining and implementing tough safety requirements.

See you all at the open house.

I've made some set up changes that if they don't work as planned then it might just be a copper top-going around and around.
Besides-I prefer the energizer bunner analogy better, you can make up your own reasons why!:D
One more thing,I love the competition-but I hate like hell too lose!
Ryan if you moved to BSS you'd have a total of 6 points-1 point for keeping the bigger rear bar-3 if you modify springs, ride height etc.(4 points max for entire suspension)and 2 points left for whatever you feel would be the biggest benefit to your car.You can upgrade to a fully padded, upholstered front seat which recline and tip forward with no prep points-its an allowed mod in stock classes.I used a rabbit GTI recaro on my corolla just because of the better support(I'm thrifty and had the seat from a ice racer)the suckers heavy though at 34 pounds. The ease of driving without holding myself behind the wheel makes up for it.IMO

wow. lucky for me, my seats only weigh in at 75 lbs EACH. (leather + heated seat+ lumbar support crap)
Oh, and who was the shmuck who started all this "beetle's are small and light" B.S?

I have a feeling this year will be full of competition.

You dont have to hold your breath this time :)

(exhales) damn its about time somebody said that LOL :P . Yeah I gotta figure some stuff out still. I would love to get some new shocks but the only ones I can see myself buying are the KYB's but they are not adjustable, there are Koni Reds but they are pretty gay in the way you go about adjusting them. I would like to get some coil overs but I don't want the car draging on the ground or the wheels tucked in the fenders.

Ryan

Although this is way off the origainal topic "coilovers" do not necessarily mean dropping the vehicle into the weeds or tucking the wheels into said fenders.

With the right combination of threaded collar height (assuming you are referring to coilover conversions), spring rate and spring free height you could use a higher wheel rate spring and position the car anywhere from above stock height (not very likely) to a modest 1 or 2 inch drop.

Yeah I don't know about most the things you just said but I was kinda refering to all the rice boys out there that have coil overs that make there cars ride on the piston of the shock. But if I did I think I would have it about an 1 1/2 lower. I guess we will just have to wait maybe next season I will move up to BSS when I am half way through my ASEP program.

Hi Robb,

Sorry I did not look at last years rule book about that section, and if it did not change I guess I did run in the wrong class last year then. Please don't interpret my question as an inquiry to get around some safety rule. In fact us mod guys have spent the good part of the winter and will spend the rest of the spring making both the seven and dwarf car more safe. I have added a cross brace to my roll bar and a forward brace that is beyond the scope of the rules, to try and make the seven more safe. As for the dwarf, we are in the process of moving the driver 4" more towards the center of the car to help improve driveability, which of course will make it easier to control and hence more safe. This change will also get all limbs in the car, which can only be a good thing. :) As far as driver safety, expect to see us complying with the rules from the get go.

Looking forward to a fun and safe season,
Ron

Glad to hear that you are as much interested in addressing safety issues as I. I look forward to seeing your reborn Dwarf car in competition. The 7 will be an added bonus.

Hi All,
I do not see my car classified in the new rules.
2003 Mazdaspeed Protege.
The MP3 is classed as B1, and my car is essentially the same, with the addition of a small T25 turbo.
I would like to compete in enough events this year to qualify for the entire series, but will be doing it on an event by event basis.
Would my car be B1, or BSS?
If one of you official types would make a judgement on this, it would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Doug
