Do you have room for wheel spacers? If not give Precision Rim a call they’ll help you out. 416-745-4128 Ask for Rick.

The wheel wont go over the caliper. It needs about .200 take off the inner diameter.

Instead of machining the wheels, why not grind down the caliper wherever it's rubbing? I know that's what a lot of guys do when they try to run 15" drag rims on their cars.

Which brakes did you go with anyway? 'Vette? or aftermarket? (just curious why they won't fit with your 17" rims ... that's weird ... 'Vettes run 17's with 13" front brakes)

Yeah ... I would not be comfortable with machines wheels. You might creat a stress point, and under the loads you put on them, that might not be fun. Grind the caliper, as suggested, or get different wheels :)

Don`t machine the wheels!!!
Try a 1/4inch shim plate first, A 17" wheel should fit if you have a Vette setup.
I have seen the calipers ground to make more room, you only have to grind both ends and not the centre section.
Strudwick Race cars may have some spacers to try.

REMEMBER to be nice to Phil;)

I went with the C5 corvette set up and I have F.A.S.T 17x9.5 rims.I was thinking about grinding the caliper,it just seemed like alot of grinding and I didn't want to weaken it.

Stock 17 inch GM rims will fit over those brakes. There is a set for sale on TFbM.org

.200" off the caliper at any point is WAY safer than .200" off of the inside of the wheel. "Clearancing" of the caliper is reptty common. Cutting away some wheel material is terrifying. :)

Just my $0.02 worth.

Shawn,

You did not say where the wheels are interfering with the calipers. However, regardless where, machining the .200 off the wheels is just a really bad idea. I have ground down/filed the corners/edges of two sets of calipers with great sucess. I would rather weaken a caliper than a wheel any day.

... Shawn - if you don't get it resolved, you can swing by my place (Oakville) and try my OEM 17" to see if they fit... if they do we can swap for the weekend - I'll run your Hoosiers and you can run mine... at least it would buy you a couple of weeks until the next event.

I've sent you a PM with my phone #'s
