One of the things I've noticed in discussions about race video cameras is durability issues. I don't know if this is any use to anyone, but in this week's issue of Ontario Farmer I found an ad with this web site <DM AgCam.> (http://www.agcam.com/index.php?page=home). Now agricultural equipment is subject to very similar conditions as racing (heat, dust, vibration, etc.) so I thought I'd check it out. I don't know much about small video camera systems, but it looks sturdy, so maybe someone with more expertise may be able to check up on the AgCam and post an opinion. There's no price list on the web site, but there's lots of dealers listed for Ontario so one of them should be able to give some price info.
