Pics & Video Forum

Over the last couple of years, more people are posting links to videos & pictures particularly in the Road Racing section. Would it be possible to set up a forum where all these links would be posted by area of interest?

As it is now, threads for pics or videos related to events may be gone from the first page of the forum within a couple of days because of the volume of topics. Having a separate forum would also make it easier to go back to find pictures/videos from previous events.

I agree. There are a lot of photographers out there, including amateurs as myself, who love capturing the action that these great teams and drivers deliver.
Some people do it for profit and that's great. Others do it just for the fun of it.
A central site would be great.

Liz and I have an archive of nearly all the events from as far back as the beginning of 2006 sorted chronologically each weekend and by class. Currently we have over 20,000 images online.

If you drove it...odds are good we caught it.

Also, have sticky threads for youtube and "picture of the day" threads, so the whole forum doesn't get over-run with people creating new threads for the latest and greatest youtube video.

Moderate it so people can only create new threads if they are linking or posting photos from isolated events (ie. everyone posts their links in one thread, opposed to 10 people starting 10 threads for pictures from the same event... if someone starts a new thread that is for the same event as one already posted, delete it... they'll get the message after a thread deletion or two...). :)

I like the idea of a video forum & a picture forum. I agree that having one thread for each race weekend would keep the links on the first page longer & make checking back to earlier ones easier.

Well, we've read the thread a couple of times - is that progress? ;)

Serious answer - we are considering the ideas here, but we have a few other web related projects that we need to complete first so we'll ask you to be patient and we'll let you know once we decide on what we can and cannot do.

Thanks for the reply. I sent an email recently about using "Sticky's" at the top of each forum as a temporary solution. I notice the Gala Photo Contest one is still at the top of the Road Racing forum. I am not totally sure how they work but it might be a quick fix. One for posting picture links & one for posting video links would be ideal.

Thanks for pointing out the Photo Contest thread - we should have done an announcement which would have "disappeared" itself automatically.

If we were in mid-season, we'd probably already have done what you suggested but given there's nothing going on we've been pondering the best approach.

If you create two threads and PM Nick or I, we'll "stick" them for you.

We'll come up with something more permanent soon.
