What is the best way to register for the BAC "Corvette" AutoSlalom Series that takes place at the Bronte GO Station? Are they independent of the CASC-OR Solo II series or do I need a competition licence and so on to compete?

Apologies for asking this publicly but given how nasty the weather is, if I don't have to drive out to Newmarket on Sunday to get all registered for the summer's racing I won't.

Thanks in advance,
Thomas

THe Corvette Club does not have a series, just individual events. One of those individual events is the Regional event (July 20th).

Their policy is show up the day of the event and register (first come first serve).

The Regional Solo 2 series has series pre-registration that you can take care of tomorrow at the open house.

As Wes says they arn't a "Series" in traditional sense, meaning they are not a championship series for non corvette owners. I do believe Corvette drivers themselves do collect championship points. The rest of us do not. So while it is a series of events, you can do as many or as few as you want because each one stands on it's own.

Also these events are now to be referred to as:

COMP Corvette Autoslalom Series

or

Competition Corvette Club AutoSlalom Series.

The BAC club is not a series organizer this year. CCCC is CASC/ASN Affiliated.

Thanks again. I ment 'series' as in a series of events and not in the competitive sense. I have so little motorsports experience (and talent) that I would just like to get out and have some fun and with a bit of luck improve my car control skills.

With luck (an no more snow/freezing rain) I'll be in Newmarket tomorrow!

We have way too many acronyms - CCCC, C4, Quad C, CCC, COMP, CASC, BAC...

The 2003 Corvette Autoslalom Series is organized by the Competition Corvette Club (COMP, sometimes refered to as CCC but CCC also refers to the Car Classification Committee so I prefer to use COMP). COMP is affiliated with 2 organizations, the Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs (CASC) and the Canadian Council of Corvette Clubs (CCCC, sometimes refered to as C4 or Quad C).

CASC or more appropriately, CASC-OR for Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs - Ontario Region is the governing body for amateur motorsports in the province of Ontario. It governs something like 28 clubs.

The Canadian Council of Corvette Clubs (CCCC) is broken down into an Eastern and a Western Region. CCCC-ER oversees the activities of 16 Corvette clubs. The CCCC is NOT affiliated with CASC since it is a governing body much like CASC; it is not a club. For Corvette drivers the COMP series of events do score towards a Quad C Championship consisting of the COMP events plus any other autoslalom events put on by one of the other 15 Quad C clubs.

In 2002 the Corvette Autoslalom Series was a joint effort between the Burlington Autosport Club (BAC) and COMP. For 2003 BAC is out of the picture as far as the Corvette Autoslalom Series goes.

I hope that clears up any misconceptions with respect to the acronyms!

To respond to Thomas' original post, to register for any of the Corvette Autoslalom events show up at the Bronte GO Station in Oakville between 9am and 10am, fill out the registration form, sign the waiver and pay your money. You don't require a Competition license, but do do require proof that the vehicle you plan to compete in is licensed and insured for road use.

The dates for the 2003 Corvette Autoslalom Series are:

April 13 (although if the snow does not disappear over the next week this date may be replaced with the first rain date)
May 18
June 15
July 20
Sept 7
Sept 28
Oct 26

Rain Dates
Oct 12
Nov 2

All events are at the Bronte GO Station in Oakville near the QEW and Third Line.

I refer to them as the "Corvette boyz", kinda like HADA is referred to as the "Honda boyz".

Does this mean that vehicles that are trailered need not apply?

Also, what will the CCC rules around passengers be this year?
If I read them correctly, the official Solo2 rules say that non-minor passengers who have signed the waiver are allowed at any time.

Thanks for the clarification.

Trailer queens - Yes, "Track only" cars - No!
If the vehicle is licensed and insured for road use whether it is trailered is irrelevant. Sorry for being so hard lined about this, but if we want to continue to get permission to use this premier parking lot we have no choice in the matter - the less attention we draw to ourselves the better!

The official CASC Solo 2 rules set the minimum standard. Any organizing club can choose to set a more restrictive standard. The Competition Corvette Club, after lengthy discussion, has decided to set a more stringent standard. Our policy will be that passengers are only permitted subject to the organizer's discretion. The organizer may defer that decision to one of the directors of the club. The guidelines we have given our organizers is that any passenger should also be a competitor and that at least one of the driver or passenger must be recognized as an experienced competitor. The logic behind this is that the experienced competitor is there as a coach to help the other competitor improve his/her skills.

Again, sorry for being so hard lined about this, but please understand that a GO Transit official can come around and observe our event at any time. What they report back to head office will have a bearing on whether we are given permission to use the parking lot in the future. Allowing non-competing passengers, particularly if they are minors is not likely to be seen favourably and could jeopardize our use of the lot.

Eric,
Thanks for the clarifications.

I think everyone recognizes that the club is doing what it believes necessary to ensure continued use of a great venue.

Looking forward to a great season.
