Ok, I'm having a discussion here at work about when is the best time to check the oil level in your car. I'm saying that after the car has been sitting for a while so the oil has a chance to drain back into the pan, but someone is arguing that you should check your oil level when the car is warm.
Could someone back me up on this please.

I always check it once it has come up to full operating temp, then sat with the engine off for a few minutes.
Ie: drive to the gas station, turn off the car, fill 'er up, go pay, come out, check oil.

you can do it hot or cold but you should have the engine sit for about 10-15 minutes so the oil drains down.

Yes your all right, but then again your all wrong...
I've found that different owners manuals recommend different lengths of time for the engine to sit. I've seen as much as 10-15 minutes and as little as 2-3 minutes. So check your owner's manual. I check mine when it's freshly turned off, as my car burns a fair amount of oil, and gets oil starvation, so I prefer to er on the high side...

i just add a litre after every race day..that seems to be the right amount to keep the oil level stable
