Next weekend I’m going to be porting my head.
It’s a 94 Honda Civic CX with the 1.5L engine. My friend, who has done this numerous times, suggested I try to find any information on where and how much material we should remove.
Does anyone know where I can get information on this or does anyone have any suggestions.
My goal is to make more power but not sacrifice streetability.
Thanks
Chuck

I just recently ported a Honda 1.6L head (D16Z6) ... and this is what I have learnt ...
-Honda heads flow very well in stock form ... thus require litttle work to optimise them .... Basically less is more ...
-Clean and remove all carbon buildup
-Smooth out the casting marks in the ports
-Port match the head to the intake manifold and exhaust manifold
-Run a 80 grit flap wheel in intake ports leaving a nice 80 grit finish
-Take the exhaust ports to a 120 grit finish
-Clean up the bowl area, smoothing the transision between the bowl and the port and leave a nice smoth surface
-Leave the combustion chamber alone if you are keeping the motor mild ... at the most "knock" the sharp edges off any casting /machining lips to minimise the hot-spots
-Do not touch the "floor" of the intake port anywhere near the curve into the combustion chamber ... this shape is vital to good flow and Honda gets it right 99% of the time
-Do a 3 angle valve job, and make sure the head gasket mating surface is straight and true
Here is a couple of good sites for more info
