Wow, that's a crazy fast time for GT2. What does his car look like? I don't remember seeing it.

He's beaten GT1, SGT3, and SGT2 !

I had to leave early, was he in impound?
What happened to John Hansen's times?

I'm pretty sure John Andreadis wasn't even at that event...it's a mistake in the scoring...

How does backup time work? I thought it was your next fastest lap, but is it your next fastest lap in another session, or some kind of average?

I thought that in the same session I ran my best (102.504) I also ran a 102.544, and in another session I had 102.7xx. But my backup score doesn't reflect either of those.

Just curious. Thanks.

Edit: also, are lap times going to be posted? Thanks!

Your backup time is the average of all you lap times excluding your 3 worst, as I recall.

Greg

Edit: Oh, and for some reason your backup score is your average compared to the class winner's best lap, not your own. I don't get that one, not that it counts for anyting, but as a measure of your own consistency the figure doesn't make sense for those who didn't win their class.

- your backup score is meaningless if you did not get 100 points, so it really doesnt matter since the backup score is only used to break ties.

- no word on lap times

- regarding john andreas id talk to the organizers

- regarding john hansen, id wait for the official organizers to post an official explanation if they decide to do so

back up times are explained in detail within the rulebook, page 19.

hard to follow the results, I guess weather played a factor even within classes.

Meaningless in terms of event scoring, but if it were calculated correctly it would be an indicator of each competitor's own consistency. Whereas now it is a pubished figure that is not only irrelevent but, as far as I can see, provides no useful information.

feel free to devise a new mathematical calculation of the backup scores and present it to the CCC and the executive board during the upcoming meeting.

I think he just did - you compare it to YOUR personal best, and not to the class leaders.

So, if you run, say there are 12 hot laps, and you run 100 seconds on every lap but one, and 99.9 seconds on your best lap, you basically get a back up of 99.99%, saying "this guy is really consistent".

If the class leader runs a 98 one lap, and 98.5 - 105 in the other laps, they might end up with a backup of 97.7 which says "yes, they won the class, and the other guy was not as fast, but was more consistent"

Ties still only really matter between class winners with 100, and then backup is still basically the same thing as it always was for them, since the class winners best time is THEIR best time.

Makes sense to me.

Edit: of course, in RAIN events that had SOME dry runs for only SOME competitors, this could go all out of whack.

In cases of intermittent rain it would be better to take a variance from each session and do average variance.

Trouble is, someone who knows they're going to win their class can do one lap per session and have a variance of 0.00. So you'd have to incorporate a min of 3 timed runs check in the software or else it defaults to a 5 or something for that session. This would stress mechanical reliability and driver skill.

It just seems like a simple way to get more useful information out of the existing system. Doesn't affect scoring or ruleset in any way. As far as proposals and discussions, I take pity on the CCC. They've got lots to mull over this year. :)

Geez, had it not been for that bloody wheel hop and subsequent "meeting" with the tire will, I actually would have pulled off a 5th-place finish in SGT3!! That would be a "first" ;). But, alas, no such luck :o. Better luck next year...

... and I promise not to wash & wax the car the day before ANY event again ... sorry about the rain .

Congrats! So you didn't have to tow your own car this time! I remember last year hearing "Oh, someone call the tow truck driver, there's a spin"... "That IS the tow truck driver"

Thanks for getting the important stuff up so fast. Can we have lap times too, please?

Was it confirmed that SPDA actually DID have the highest club score for the weekend, or was Rob pulling our leg?
