I've read in a few places that the solo2 rules for next season are going to be more in line with the SCCA rules.

I'm not 100% familiar with the SCCA rules, but I understand using a different size tire is cause for class changes.

My concern is I am considering some sticky tires for play days, and the factory wheels are 17". I would rather save the money and get some 15" wheels and sticky tires, with the plan of retaining them for next season as well (may not have them this summer anyway). But if I buy these wheels and tires, they may adversely (sp?) affect me next year.

Anyone have any input on this?

Your sticky tires will most likely be gone by next season anyways, so they're no longer an issue. You could always pick up used 15's from someone who is upgrading and thus not loose TOO much money - or resell them again to someone who isn't concerned about moving into another class.

Not SCCA, more like CNAC rules.

We may not have a choice in the matter. If ASN tells us to, we have to and that will include all series and events run by any CASC-OR Club.

There is a new National Solo Committee that has been formed to standardize all Solo Sport across the country.

Now whether or not that is ready for next year..........

Logan: BEWARE !! Don't expect to find any cheap 15" wheels for this car.

I am in a particularly difficult spot at the moment because the wheels I ordered two months ago may not be here in time for the start of the season. But very few wheels are available in the correct size .. and even fewer shops & distributors have them in stock.

There are of course plenty of high-quality forged wheels available in the correct sizes from Japan and England.

So .. if you want 15's .. start planning now! :D

Even sticking with 17's .. it's hard to find them in a high enough offset ( >= +49 ) to qualify for stock class. 5Zigen Fighters, some ASA wheels, and some Fast wheels as well as Team Dynamics Pro-Race wheels seem to be made in the right size but again it could be a problem of availability.

Eeek ! Wish me luck in my quest. haha

Thanks all!
I didn't plan on having tires last me more than a season, but if I buy smaller wheels I would like to stick with them for more than one season.
Rowan, do you know how the P5's 16" wheels weigh in? I would expect them to be considerably heavier than a race wheel, but the price might be right.
There is still the problem of next year though...

P5 wheels are good. 16 lbs .. but only 6" wide.
And you are limited to running Kumho V700 Ecsta 205/45-16 or Hoosier.

They may or may not qualify for stock class depending on the rulebook definition of stock. They are a factory part, but they were not a factory option on our particular model of car.

Hopefully CNAC will keep the rule about 2 points in stock class rule for next year. 1 point for different sized wheels, 1 point for r-compound tires.
