That sucks Jason. Were the graphics still on the car? Should be easy to spot.
Insured I hope.

I've been in touch with Jason. Seems kinda odd that all my Mad Macs Racing stuff gets stolen from our race trailer, then Jason's car gets stolen after having Mad Macs decals on it. Hmmmm, conspiracy or what?

They're trying to STEAL your speed because they can't match it. ;)
Sorry, this sucks. Jason's car wasn't exactly subtle either.
Sorry to hear about that Jason, since it's a car that's not easilly missed, hopefully one of us spots the car and calls the cops.

I'm really sorry to hear about this Jason. Are there any distinguishing marks on the chassis? I don't think there's too many EGs with half-cages around these parts, someone might spot it at a lapping day......
For the others who asked, the decals were off the car the year.

Sorry to hear that.
I REALLY want to spot this car somewhere.
Hopefullt the joke will be on them... and they'll get caught... after they realize they took the risk for a STOCK MOTOR... and not an ITR or 2.0L swap.
Keep an eye out for it to get dumped somewhere also.
nothing of value in that car to them for parting really - besides some suspension...

just so everyone looking knows the stickers are no longer on the car.
I removed them in the summer because I was so easily to spot. As some have said those Yellow Stickers were probably the best theif deterant because of how easy it is to spot.
Anyways thanks everyone for keeping your eyes open.
Jeff,
I completely agree, I just wish I could see the looks on their face when they pop the hood ... that would make it worth it.
just a note on the suspension . it had a Rear Sway bar from a company I can't remember now, and it had Tokico Shocks with Ground Control Coilovers of course the Ground Control Coilovers wold be seized by now with 2 winters and no Protection so they are not really good for anything... it also had Poly urathane bushings from 2005 probably in need of serious replacement.

Well,
this saga is coming to an end ... Toronto Police called me and reported finding my car near Rexdale and Kipling.... it's in an impound lot now .. I'm going to see what the damage is on Monday. (My guess is it's probably seen the inner workings of a chop shop)

Bastards probably gutted the interior!
Dood...
The car'll be fine... maybe been curbed... Only thing of value was the suspension... and I doubt they swapped it out.
Here's hoping all the best.
Good luck.

So the Police report (it was read to me by the towing company) states: there is damage to the right front fender and a missing corner light, the interior has been ransacked."
I'm going to try to make it across the city to see the condition of the car later today.

I have seen the car
wow
first off the words "%^&* circuit" were scratched into the paint above the drivers door (probably due to my fuel cut off circuit)
Next the half cage is gone. yes completely removed.
The intake.. gone
THe Exhuast Gone
The Radio gone
THe Tach Gone
the Corner lights are gone.
both front fenders are damaged.
The race seat is still there.
the suspension (which isn't any good) is still there
and thats the condition it sits in.
but my brand new snow tires are still on the car

wow. Why on earth would someone go through the trouble of removing a half cage, then leave the wheels on? Was the cage welded or bolted?
So you'll be replacing this car, not repairing, i assume?

it was a Welded in Custom half cage.
I'll be replacing the car when the insurance writes it off.

just wondering mang...
did the insurance adjuster see the car?
any issues when he/she saw the cage?
gatherer

yes the adjuster has seen the car ..
of course they took the cage so there was no cage to see.

Jason, I really don't understand this one. It's baffling.
Steal the half-cage but not the racing seat?
Corner lights and Radio... but not the rims and brand new winter tires?
Aside from a guy building a Civic that only sees summer... taking the items he's missing... WTF?
Sorry Dude...

the race seat is easy to explain why it didn't go .. there was one bolt where the nut on the frame broke loose of it's welds so it's impossible to loosen without cutting into the frame to get at it .. plus the seat had a rather large tear it it ...
anyways as for the tires thats baffling for me. I have no Idea why that is.

Sounds like someone had a cutting torch in their garage but no means to change the tires? If your rims were painted red they might not have wanted to take them to a shop from fear of them being recognized? Or maybe some kid didnt have another set of rims to move the car to ditch it. Weird.
So many punks hack up civics though that I could see someone steeling it just for the markers & some interior parts so they could save a couple hundred dollars. I know a few guys who had their civics stolen for things like the stock radio or the front bumper. Theres too many little punks who know those cars inside and out.
How was the welded cage cut out with a torch or could they sawzall it out?
Are you going to replace it or fix it up with the insurance money?
gatherer
12-25-2007, 08:12 PM
well i'm getting pratically nothing from insurance .. so I'm not fixing it...
here's how I think they removed the caged (based on what I saw when I looked the car over)
1) they used a cutting wheel on a grinder to cut out the strut towers where the rear bars conected... of course on my car I didn't have welded plates on those strut towers... so it was simple sheet metal to cut through
2) they used a cutting torch to cut out around where the main hoop connects to the chassis. that didn't work... they cut a good portion of it and then stopped.
3) they got out the sawzall and cut the bottom of the main hoop where it connects to body. I found a busted sawzall blade.

Is sawzall really spelled that way? Or did you just copy me? Cause I just made that up! lol
gatherer

yes it is .. at least on the original sawzall it was...my father has one. it's spelt that way on the case.
