I yanked out my helmet I was planning on using to ensure it was OK for school coming up.

On the back, of says 'SNELL' and 'DOT' and it was manufactured 12/98 as-per the chin strap. The rules call for a Snell95M or newer. Am I correct in thinking that '95' in the year of manufacture and I'm OK, or am I going shopping Monday night?

Whats the 'M' part?

Thanks again!

It is a motorcyle helmet I bought a while back for use to obtain an M licence. Its a very nice Arai (sp?) unit.

Snell ratings are updated every 5 years, you will see M or SA 85/90/95/2000 so the latest is 2000 and the next is 2005. Look under the lining of the helmet that is where the Snell sticker is. If it's out of date or has had an impact go and buy a SA2000 helmet.

a Snell M95 rated helmet or newer is required for Solo 1, unless you have a rollcage in your car in which case you need a Snell SA95 rated helmet or newer. The DOT rating is irrelevant for the purposes of Solo 1.

As maxrpm pointed out, look under the inner liner of the helmet and you should find a sticker on the foam shell that says Snell M95 or M2000. If it's M90 or older, it's no good for Solo 1.

Great thanks. I'll pull the liner out tonight.
