2008 Discover Onatrio Rally

Hello Everyone,

The 2008 year is fast approaching and TAC has given my father and I the privilege of organizing the 2008 Discover Ontario Rally. The rally is still five months away but we have yet to find a solid route to run. We have some routes in mind and are open to suggestions. Going with the name of discovering Ontario are favourite , and unfortunately the farthest route, will start just north of Huntsville. Most of the details are yet to be worked out, but I wanted to know how many people would make the trip to compete or help out.
There are some fantastic roads in the area and it would be a shame to let them go to waste. The roads are mostly gravel with only the main roads asphalt and virtually no traffic.
Please post a reply if you will be willing to make the trip. If we don’t have enough competitors we will start closer to the GTA.

Hi Steven,

That would be 6.5 hours of transit time alone (3.25 hours each way) for my Navvie and I assuming no excessive traffic. I'm not ruling it out... that's about how long it took me to get to Lanark, though having a cottage to crash at would make it an easier decision.

I can't really give you an answer yet though because I might miss this event due to not having a gravel-capable car. I'm planning on changing over to summer suspension the Sunday after Blossom Rally for the start of the Solosprint season. 10kg/mm springs and ~2.5" of ground clearance isn't suited to maintain average speeds on some roads. Every CP might turn into a bathroom break... ;)

Five months is a long time to plan ahead for me, but tentatively I would come to help out (VA3ATR). Personally, I would really like to see rally events brought back up north.

Huntsville is only 230km from Toronto. Much closer then the Ottawa area events for GTA people.

Another benefit is that these roads would not have been seen by rally folk in a long time.

As an aside, the Rally of the Voyageurs, used to run out of Temagami and North Bay. Much further then Huntsville which is a mere 2 hour and a bit drive from Toronto.

There won't be an ORRC event anywhere near Ottawa ... so no worries about that drive! :)

I'd be up for going to Huntsville and as long as I have a navigator I will be there if it doesn't conflict with a Solosprint event.
