SPDA Winter Karting Challenge

I completely forgot to post this last week but here goes:

Announcing the First Annual SPDA Winter Karting Challenge!

SPDA will be hosting four monthly events, starting in January, to help you keep the rust off of your driving reflexes and skills.

All are welcome, but we have a maximum of 20 competitors!

Location: Forumula Kartways http://www.formulakartways.com/
NOTE: THE KART TRACK LAYOUT WILL BE CHANGED PRIOR TO THE FIRST EVENT!!!

Event Dates:
Sunday, January 20th
Sunday, February 17th
Sunday, March 23th
Sunday, April 13th

Time: 9.00 to 12.00
Events may finish sooner depending on the number of competitors, etc.

Race Format:
10 laps - Qualifying
30 laps - Race #1
30 laps - Race #2
(70 laps total)
Lap times approx. 30 seconds. (if I remember correctly!)

Price:
$80/competitor/event (+GST)
*we are working to have free lap coupons for prizes/give aways...details to follow*

Scoring:
There will be two groups, A & B, comprised of 10 competitors each. Points will be awarded from 1st to 10th position in Group A and from 11th to 20th position in Group B.

Starting order for Race #1, Groups A & B, will be based on qualifying times. Group A will be comprised of the fastest 10 qualifiers.

Starting order for Race #2, Groups A & B, will be based on fastest laps in Race #1. If a competitor has a faster lap time in Group B than somebody in Group A during the race, that competitor will move to Group A for Race #2 to battle for more points!

SPDA Karting Championship:
All finishing places (1st to 20th) will score points for the championship.
Championship points will be based on your best 3 of 4 events.
Don't want to do the championship? No problem! Come out for any event(s) you can and have fun!!

Karts:
All karts will be paced by Formula Kartways staff to ensure even performance between karts as much as possible.

Registration:
Entries will be confirmed by PM'ing me (tashko) prior to each event. Payments can be made at the track cash/debit/credit.

Event #1 is fast approaching this Sunday!! We have space for two more drivers if you're on the fence. :)

For those already in it:

PLEASE NOTE THE START TIME FOR QUALIFYING IS 10:00AM!!

We will be doing a course walk (some changes have been made) for those that wish. Please try to arrive around 9:30 so that we will have time for the walk and drivers meeting and get the qualifying started on time.

Thanks to all those that came out and I hope you had as much fun as I did! It was great to compete again, see some familiar faces and some new.
There was a big gap between 1st and 13th after qualifying of 3.2s, but, by the end of Race#2 the gap was down to ~1.3s accross 13 drivers!

Personally, I really like the track changes that they made and particularly like the new section from the pit-in hairpin to the straight. The left-right-left feels good.

I'd also like to thank Formula Kartways for providing pizza after the event today. Thanks!

I have some coupons for 5 free laps and 10% off Caseys which I received after some of you left. Please PM me if you are interested in them and include your mailing address. I'll fire them off to you.

Next event is Sunday, February 17th and you don't need to be part of the championship to run! :)

After a great first event which left some spectators and track workers commenting "that was great to watch", we're back to do it again!

Now accepting entries to Event #2 of the SPDA Karting Challenge!!

The events are open to all and are stand-alone races. You don't need to worry about the Championship points unless you plan to do at least three events.
