I am posting this on behalf of Rachel and Andy Nelson who are currently stalwart members of the VRCBC (Rachel is the current club secretary). Andy is getting a job transfer to the Toronto area soon (pilot for Fed-Ex) and we will be sorry to lose them. They are Mini racers and you can check out their website AR Performance Minis

They will be looking for shop or warehouse space or maybe a house to rent with a large garage/shop within 40 minutes of the Pearson Airport. They hope to compete at the VARAC June festival. Please welcome them when they arrive at Mosport.

We have a Jaguar and we are very afraid of it, especially the damage to the wallet. It is lying in wait to pounce another day, once it is properly fed and watered.

Welcome to the mini pilots. (not to be confused with small aircraft operators).

Jon, I am sure if you gave it to my father to rebuild it and sort out you would have a very quick car, from what I saw of her she needs some serious TLC.

Daniel was interested in our 1962 Jaguar XKE that we raced sucessfully in Varac back in the 80's & 90's. He races a Mini but is also active in the Jaguar Community, sadly she is sitting in the corner of the shop collecting dust as the Big Cat gets all the attention these days. We'd like to find her a new home so she can howl up the back straight again.

Yes, welcome to the Mini Drivers. Mini's will always have a special place in my heart. I saw my first Road Race at Mosport as a little boy cheering on a Yellow Mini of Family Friend Adrian Peters. Adrian helps the Kinsman Clan with their Mini and attends Varac events.

Yes Steve, when the Jag was last out it was not even close to being sorted. We have come a long way since then. Unfortunately organising the Toronto Grand Prix Vintage race in 2006 took up a lot of time and we rushed it at the end of the year to get some track time without proper testing. Lesson learned.

The principle problem was carburation, and we seem to have a fix on it now. However, we have a bad bearing in the crankshaft and have not pulled the engine yet. No rush, it is in heated storage and is behind a few other projects.

I'm still interested in checking out that lovely E-type race car you have for sale. If I'm going to buy it, I'll need the TSX index to go up by about 25%. Can any of you guys arrange that? :)
In 2008 I will be racing the Mini again after killing the engine at Watkins Glen in '06. There are a lot of fast guys out there and I'm sure the competition at the Festival will be fierce!
In 2009 I will either be back in Formula Ford with my 16 year old son or perhaps back in vintage with a new car.

Cheers,

Daniel

Thank you very much Robert for the intro!

Andy and I are really looking forward to meeting everyone and of course racing! We are hoping to attend the VARAC event in June, if we have the cars relocated in time.
Here is a pic of my race car:

Same here! Although the Mini I was cheering at Mosport was in the early 90's, driven by Brad Baker... going flat-out through two (or damn close) and three-wheeling (although I swear it was almost two sometimes) through corner nine... Fond memories. :D

Why not convert that old Racer into something useful.
You could rent it by the hour and very little maintenance involved...
I'm sure there are lots of Jag owners that would like to go out in style.:D

LOL Very morbid Ken.

Malcolm, Dan's (66 Cooper) mini is the ex Baker Mini you saw.

I hear ya Rob, hope the Vette has made a full recovery. The Big Cat is getting a new paint job and motor overhaul for 2008, see ya in the Spring.

That was a coincidence...

Yes indeed. The Mini Cooper I have campaigned for the last 6 years is the same car that Brad Baker used to drive around Mosport at unheard of speeds. Fortunately, I drive it a lot slower! There is a video of me driving it on Google Video. Just type in "Mosport Mini" in the search feature.

It is a blast to drive. See you at the Festival in June.
