Event #9 always was Pro. I always put the last event of the weekend on the Pro course.
Hopefully the weather will be better on the 6th of April.

The 15 January minutes of the ASN Solosports conference call says there will be no 2008 Solosprint Championship.
Is this something new?
I thought it was announced somewhere that the National Championship was going to be at CMP in August.
Disapointing.
Why is this information not posted in the forum or did I miss it? I found it by accident.

Well, no matter what it's called, I think the Calabogie weekend will be THE event where all the championship attending type people will be.
We can call it "The Championship" if there is no "National Championship":)

Calabogie was proposed to be a National Championship. The organizing committee decided after many, many meetings and discussions - and talking to FSAQ, OSO, CASC-OR, and ASN Canada FIA - to not make a formal bid.
The event will be co-hosted by MCO and CADL (Quebec). The event will be part of both the Ontario Regional and Quebec Provincial championships, so there will be many competitors. Scoring will be totally separate - Ontario participants will only be scored against other Ontario entrants, and Quebec participants will only be scored against Quebec participants.
The main reason for not making the bid was the high cost of renting and peripheral costs for the Calabogie track relative to the previous venues used. The organizing committee felt that the approximately $5000 in additional sanctioning fees needed to hold the Nationals would result in too high a financial burden to competitors - particularly on top of the already higher costs of the track.
In addition, and perhaps more importantly from a competitor's standpoint, we would also have to deal with different rules being used provincially and nationally. It was, and is, unclear what the effect of the changes that are planned for Ontario would be, but I think that everyone will agree that there would be discontent, as the National rules, and the Quebec rules, would not/may not have all the changes that CASC-OR is adopting for 2008.
MCO and CADL are planning informal inter-provincial awards that will be for fun, i.e., no whining, no protests, nothing fancy, just for fun. MCO and CADL have had inter-provincial fun competition in Solo2 for a number of years, and competitors enjoy it, even though the Solo2 rulesets in the two provinces have many differences.
No announcement was made pending the release of the ASN SoloSport Committee minutes, which was done last Friday. Thanks Doug for bringing it to my attention. I hope that you do not remain disappointed for long, and hope that you can attend. Calabogie will be the biggest SoloSprint event in Canada in 2008, and it will be a blast! :D

Can you explain how did you calculate an extra 5000$? are you planning of having over 100 driver?
If so, can you let us know what will be the difference in term of organisation between this event and the event in June 2007? We had barely time to complete 2 run per driver. I hope that you might take a look on the option of transponder since you will save ''5000$''.
No matter what, i will be there with my co-driver again:D , but with a different car...the Honda/michelin car is RIP...but might make it again with another driver after the rebuild...

Sorry, I included additional budgeted costs made necessary in the $5000. ASN sanctioning costs $500 plus $40 a competitor, i.e., $3500 for 75 competitors, plus or minus GST.
Saving $5000 doesn't mean having $5000 to play with, it means avoiding a $5000 loss. After losing thousands last year, I really want the event to break even this year.
As for runs, well, deer pretty much have a mind of their own. We have some other ideas, but it is premature to discuss them. If we have over 100 drivers register, then I agree with you, transponders or something different is needed (and with over 100 drivers, affordable).
Glad to hear you'll be back!

The 2007 event ran a bit long due to the wildlife coming to check out the fast cars, but we did complete three runs. http://soloontario.com/lapsevent5.xls
2008 will be even better. Don't mistake that SoloSprint events at CMP need to be big to be viable. I think it is worth it and I know Craig has been putting a lot of effort into the 2008 event already. More competition is better anyway. I don't know if my friends from Quebec will be watching my times, but I'll be comparing their times with mine. :)

Don't remind me of that day... it was the only event all season that I ran faster than my brother and then 'whoops'; I went FWO the same session to disqualify my time. :o

This page will need to be updated:

It still indicates Rounds 8 & 9 as both being Fabi.
