I'm Looking at getting some Porterfield brake pads. My car is a designated track only car, so I'm not sure if the R-4's or R4-S will be better suited for Solo Sprint. Any thoughts?
(the R-4's are full race, and the R4-S are street/autocross. although in the description, the R4's will work for autocross as well)

Well, if it's track only, then your best choice will be the R4. I've used the R4S on a street car and liked them alot. Why Portefield?

They were suggested on a Fiero Specific form. Parts can be hard to come by, so I'm not even sure if other manufactures make race compound pads for my car.
Are there some other companies I should check? Opinions?

I know gransports are manufactured in Canada. Try talking to Carl from Trac or contacting them directly. What I've heard has been done for limited apps like yours is you send them the backing plates from your last set of pads and they'll mount new pad material to them. I loved the GS2 on the track btw. Think Williams did it for JohnP for his Miata maybe? Don't remember. But you can also try Williams - see if they'll mount the F1 pad for you - I hear it's awesome, but have no real experience with it. Has to be something that's done through the factory.

Hard to believe that the Fiero would not share a pad shape with another car of some sort ... did you ever try to cross reference the pad shapes?

Can you swap in Camaro spindles, calipers or rotors? I ran ITR wheels and brakes on my ol' crx.

I am working on it, but it looks like the '88 car uses the same pads front and rear, and they are the same as say a 6000 STE rear pad. The 84-87 car uses different front and rear pads, and I have not found an interchange yet.
What year is this car, btw?

Year of the car? That's a great question!!!
The VIN says it's an 84' but I don't think there is much left of that.
I've got 88' front suspension and brakes w/ slotted and drilled rottors, and 84-87 rear suspension and brakes, stock rotors.
I didn't have any noticable problems with "street" pads last year, but I was on street tires. This year I'll have some R-compound tires, and 50%+ more power! - Picked up my new (new to me atleast) 3.4L Quad Cam on Sunday!
There are many (well, at least a handfull) of brake upgrades & swaps, but they're not in the budget for this year. Hopefully in 09'.
From what I have heard and read, all of the brake pads were unique to the Fiero for all years.
Thanks guys, now I have more research to do

Try Carbotech. They make excellent pads and have a good application selection. Give them a direct call.

I thought Chevette,Citiation and Fiero shared the same brakes.
