It has been very quiet regarding the 2008 Schedule and rules and we are into the second week of February.
Anyone know what is going on?

You read my mind Doug.
I was just going through last years rules, checking things out, but it would be nice to know what's shakin' as I have an itch to make some car changes.:)
Same thing goes for the CAC rules.
Schedule is posted here: http://spda-online.ca/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=3703&forum=19
Gary is currently in Florida, kinda out of touch, but he's fixed his internet access problems and has now scheduled a series of con calls to finalize the 2008 rules and schedules.
We should here a bit more shortly.

I have seen post, remember you fixed the colours for me?
I was hoping for something a little more official including the rules to make some plans.
I just found out about the cancellation of the 2008 National Solosprints. Very disapointing. I don't think anyone ever posted that announcement.

The announcement is on the CASC site in the minutes of the last SoloSport meeting. This discussion forum is not the place for announcements ;)

I would disagree on that point. This forun is the defacto communications for autosports in Ontario.
Any release or changes to rules, schedules should be announced here, with a link or reference to the formal site where the information is published.
If this forum is not used in that manner it would require hundreds of people to constantly be checking to see if something has been announced or changed. Not very efficient.
And for National information you would expect that the ASN site would be where you go for that? Right. It is always the last place to release/update information and if even then.

I would disagree on that point. This forun is the defacto communications for autosports in Ontario. Discussion, not communication from governing bodies, organizers and the like, IMHO.

As long as it is actually posted on the proper site (ASNcanada.com, casc.on.ca, solo2.casc.on.ca) then it's just a favour to post it here. There should be no requirement to post here, especially since this forum is only read by a minority of competitors.
If this forum is not used in that manner it would require hundreds of people to constantly be checking to see if something has been announced or changed. Not very efficient. The same hundreds of people would need to check the forum to get the same information, no? Same lack of efficiency.
And for National information you would expect that the ASN site would be where you go for that? Right. It is always the last place to release/update information and if even then. If you look at the CCTCC for example, the organizers do not make any announcements or post links to updated information regarding that series (for political reasons or otherwise) on this forum. All information is updated directly on the touringcar.ca site and to interested parties via email. No one seems to be left out of the communications loop in that model.
Shall we agree to disagree?

Why were the nationals cancelled?

Why were the nationals cancelled?
Just to be clear... the CAC have NOT been cancelled. Solosprint info is getting crossed up in the Autoslalom forum.
The 2008 Solosprint Nationals were NOT cancelled, they simply have not been scheduled for 2008. (And probably won't be at this point.) It was hosted in 2007 by TAC in Ontario. Although FSAQ and MCO explored the idea of co-hosting at Calabogie, the event was determined to not be financially viable due to the combined costs of ASN/FIA Levies and the track rental fees of the most expensive track in Ontario.
But of course with Calabogie's world class press area, gourmet restaurants, on site hotels, amusement park for the families, covered grandstands, and luxurious camping facilities... how can you criticize?
There is nothing preventing clubs from outside Ontario continuing to pursue the nationals.
The announcement is on the CASC site in the minutes of the last SoloSport meeting. This discussion forum is not the place for announcements ;)
Hey Ryan,
Using your logic above, which one is official?
This one: http://www.wiredmotorsports.com/pitl/
Where it shows the 2007 schedule?
Or This one?

You're asking me if tentative dates are official? No. They're tentative.
When they're official, they'll be on the website. That's why the 2007 dates/venues are still there, because they are official.
:p :D  ;)

Is the tentative schedule an announcement or a discussion?

Bwahahahahaha.... LOL
One more will make it complete. Thanks for putting that link through, I would never have found it otherwise.
I'm mistaken as usual of course, since it says "Pencil it into your calendars", I thought it to look more like an announcement by the original poster. But silly me, If it were a discussion I would have assumed that there would be a request for some sort of interaction in the form of interrogative, or the likes.
But you know how it goes...
But I digress, back on topic, and my apologies to Doug Phillips for this thread to take a divergent course. :D
[sample interrogative] Anyone have any clue as to when the official schedules will be out? [end sample]

Your bad.
I still think that significant announcements or changes regarding rules or schedules of CASC-OR events including Solo sprint and Autocross should be posted in these forums for information. Yes, ever competitor is not here but it would get the information out to a lot of people.
And as I said, the ASN site typically either is weeks/months late with National information or not at all.
I guess I should check if the minutes are posted on the ASN site or the National Solosprint site. Any idea?

I'll agree, it makes sense to announce relevant and important here in addition to the official channels. It won't get to everyone, but it is more convenient (IMO) then browsing a number of different organizing bodies and clubs websites (that may or may not be updated) to see if there is any new information on them.

Must re-programme brain to look at "Official Announcements" forum for official announcements!
It looks like a good selection of quick event locations! I'm curious to see Downsview and if it'll be concrete.
Hopefully the Picton events will be similar to 2007 with the long quick slaloms and some fast offsets!:D

Hrm, bummer!
It would be good to have an MCO Provincial event. I was planning to go to Ottawa and miss the SCCA Peru tour event. I guess I don't have to make a choice now!

Nuts, looks like I'll be missing the DDT track this year!
Fun course that one.
Should be able to make the rest of them though.

It's a little early for predictions but the Sens are not golfing yet and we can't schedule anything until that happens.
