I'm just curious if you need safety pins for carbon fiber hoods and/or trunks?

I know having them on the hood just makes sense but are they "required" for the either the hood, trunk or both?

Thanks in advance

I can't say as I've never owned one, but I have heard that they can flap around quite a bit in the wind. I'd hate to see one wrapped around a wind sheild.

Not sure if you need them, but I have seen what happens after a carbon hood flips up at 160+, not pretty.

Small price for such insurance, even the really nice aerolatch ones.

I wouldn't be worried to much for solo. The risk is that composite materials shatter rather than bend. A steel or alluminum hood could take quite a wack and stay closed. A compostie hood could easily have the latch tear away if damaged. Thus the pins are much safter; A - because there is the redundancy of two and B - because they protrude all the way through the hood and don't rely adhesive to keep them secure (loading adhesives in tension is BAD).

But as the man says. It's a small price to pay for that extra insurance.

Probably ok for solo, but your trips on the highway would benefit from some. Depending on your car we have seen quite a bit of flex from carbon fibre hoods at speed. Mind you these have no frame supports (we like them really light...lol). Trunk is probably fine

Well I was planning on getting them installed on the hood anyway, but are they "required/a good idea" for the trunk?
