re:5.0.6 Modification is defined as:

D A change to an original equipment specification or a substitution.

does this mean that if you substitute a nissan part for an AC delco part it counts as a mod...even though the size of it and specs are the same?

what happens if you get your engine rebuilt and they use aftermarket gaskets, or aftermarket bolts instead of genuine nissan parts?

or as long as the dimentions of the part remain the same...can you sub in other parts?

or...what if you sub in one piston for another...even though they remain dimentionally exactly the same?
or...what if you put in a different make of water pump or something like that?

basically...i am having my engine rebuilt...and i do not want to buy expensive nissan parts...when i can sub in parts that i can get elsewhere...the engine itself is remaining the exact same..ie compression...stroke...

please advise asap, as i have to order some parts...someone from the CCC please asvise

thanks

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think it's performance-enhancing changes that are being discussed here, more than anything.

But, not being on the CCC, I'll shut up now. ;)

Shaman is correct (I hate that when that happens). Don't let it go to your head, Steve ;) The intention of the rule is that the parts being substituted constitute a performance modification. In other words, as long as you're using 'oe spec' parts, it doesn't really matter if they're from the dealership or Canadian Tire you are not required to declare any prep points.

Hope this helps,
