Very cool... I think I'll bring along a winter ice scraper and see if that works :)

Sure it costs a little more than rubbing them with your hands...
Also, if I'm organizing an event and you hold us up because your "scraping" your tires at the start line I'm DNF'ing you on the spot.

Ouch. Organizing with an iron fist at WOSCA. :p
I'm sure it wouldn't be that big of a deal to quickly do this while waiting in line. I've checked my pressures in line before without holding anyone up.

haha... you pick up a fresh set of rocks in the first 4 feet of the course anyway. That tool looks silly and awkward. If you really wanna do this, use a towel or a glove.

No worries, my four-person pit crew will be handling the job. Shouldn't affect start timing at all. Just have to make sure that my lollipop operator doesn't send me before the tire scrapers are out of the fender wells....

I've put holes in my gloves from doing that. It does help since the amount of rock you up at the start is little compared to what you get in the pits. You want to avoid trying to start with rocks embedded like this:

I think the only lots I've ever seen that bad were Picton and Woodstock.
Has Picton improved over the years? Last time I was there was '05. Looking at last year's pics theres more grass.....

I think a pair of gloves would work better for removing rocks from a cold tire. I use gloves to do this at the end of every event, and they work very very well for me.
If the tool also removes rubber marbles it would be useful. I'd have a hard time justifying scraping off free rubber I've picked up off the track though.
Does anyone volunteer to evaluate this thing?

I think we're at a different part of the runway than we were in '05. Marginally better, but considerably bigger and faster, same stones though, they just move around.

The narrow strip was the paddock, the course ran along runways 17 and 23.

The start line is now 1/3 of the way down Runway 17, and we used less than 1/2 of Runway 28 to create a 1.7 Km autoslalom course, and ran 3 cars on the course. The tarmac on Runway 17 is better in the area where we run, and runway 28 is in better shape than 17, this year we've got more cones to replace the ones that mysteriously disappeared, and we'll see how much more of Runway 28 we can use.

Woodstock was in a league of it's own for gravel. The problem is that unless EVERY car is doing this, then there will be a pile of gravel and and just after the launch. So you clean them, and then they just pick it up again and re-clean them selves in the first few feet.
