Having enjoyed my first season ice racing, am planning on heading out to some Solo Sprint events this summer. What is the format in terms of practice and timed sessions? Do you get a certain number of laps for practice and then a number of timed laps? Thx

at each event, we try our best to put you on the race track 4 times for 5 laps each time
1 lap for warmup, 1 for cooldown, and 3 that count, so, during the day you have 12 laps in total to prove your point.
unfortunately due to... various... "things", this is sometimes shortened to just 3 runs.. or sometimes even 2 (accidents, weather change, former directors forgetting the timing equipment at home... and so on)
also, at each event, we try to have a warmup session in the morning, and we try to accomodate so that everyone can go out atleast once for around 5-7 laps.
if everything goes according to plan, OR, if things are really screwed up, you may get to go out twice or even 3 times before the event begins.
and AGAIN, if everything goes according to plan, we usualy have time in the evening for more lapping, usualy you get to race till your hearts content but most people are too tired to take advantage of it.

At most events, there usually seems to be at least ~1 hr of open lapping in the morning before we actually get into the timed events. Sometimes even upwards of ~90 min., which is usually when the crew is working on getting timing setup, gridding organized, etc.
I don't think I've ever come away from an event completely and utterly disappointed with the lack of track time I've gotten in for the day .
