Rumble at the Strip II – A look back at the Rumble at the Strip I
May 31, 2008 - Harder, Faster, Longer
Do you dare!!

SPDA presents round 2 of the CASC-OR Provincial Championships. Last year, SPDA partnered up with STLAC to provide competitors with a unique event consisting of a challenging, adrenaline pumping layout, using the ex bomber base located in beautiful Picton Ontario.

This 2 day event began with Canada’s most challenging, fastest autoslalom. The rulebook was scrutinized and the results became "history in the making". This 1.7 Km course averaged 70 seconds giving an average speed of 84 Km/h. The runways at Picton Airport provided the course designer a large canvas with which to create this masterpiece.

Following Day 1, participants were invited to “Black Prince” winery to enjoy the fruits of Picton, as well as a barbecue. SPDA members were provided a free dinner for their friends and family.

The course layout started with an offset chicane to prevent advantages to AWD cars. Ironic considering a drag start would have favored the SPDA club members, but alas, political correctness was the order of the day.

The offset start followed by a 30 meter straight, into a 25 pace 7 cone slalom, into a roundabout gate 450 degrees, into a gate which led to an entry gate, and into a high speed 43 meter spacing 7 cone slalom, into a sweeping right hand turn into offset slaloms, then it’s back onto runway 1, through a sweeping left hand turn, into a Chicago box, then to an offset slalom into the stop box.

There were 3 cars on the course, and competitors were rewarded with 6 official runs by 3:00 pm, followed by uncountable fun runs.

That was then, May 31st brings to life “Rumble at the Strip II”, what we have in planned will dwarf the previous Rumble. Yes, we’re playing “One Upmanship” against ourselves, and are working diligently to outdo the previous history making event. This one promises to be “Bigger, Harder, Faster”.

Dare yourself!!

When you say "Harder, Faster, Longer" does the 'harder' refer to more technical and tight and the 'longer' mean you are having more turns in the same space? I sure hope so!

You are right on the Harder, but I think "longer" refers to using much more of the available space - giving us room to stretch our throttle cables.

You forgot lots of chunky of perfectly good race tires on the rough surface because for some reason StLAC always wants us to come at the beginning of the year.

I also didn't mention "Lots of Hydrocarbons" burned to contribute to global warming, and that's just Doug breathing and um expelling gasses, not to mention the contribution from the cars!! LOL

I recommend packing Gatoraid and a snack for the course walk/hike.

Last year at 1.7km / 5km/h walking speed = over 20 minutes per course walk. So this year we'll have a tough time walking the course more than twice within 830-930.

The bus will be there as well to do course familiarization, just like last year. Also consider the marvelous side benefit of cardio aerobic exercise. :D

Bruno and I are pretty sure to make the trip down.

Is there a motel of choice where people are staying?

Are there places to have beer after the event...or more?

As for beer, yes there are a few places there to go relax, but after the event on Saturday we're all heading off to the "Black Prince Winery" for dinner. The VARAC racers and competitors from the event will all congregate there.

(shouldn't have left this, this late) Anyone want to split a room for fri-sat, or have space in a room that they want to split? I'm planning on making a reservation Monday.

Its pretty cool and a bit annoying (hotels) , that the CCTCC guys are running at Shannonville on the same weekend.

We will have to wrap up FTD early in the day so that we can trek out to Shannonville to catch the finals on both days....lol!!

Some more info for both days:

Security will be on site overnight Saturday night.

An addition to this years event support is a Confectionary Truck that will be serving food all day. He will be open at 9:00 serving coffee and breakfast sandwiches (similar to McD’s). For lunch hamburger, hotdogs and chicken sandwiches will be available. Prices to be posted at the track. He will serve food until 2:00

Once again, bottles of Black Prince Winery wine will be awarded to the class winners.

Like last year, Saturday night will be a BBQ at the Black Prince Winery. Ticket will be $8 and available during the event Saturday, also at the Winery Saturday evening. The winery will also be hosting Vintage competitors from the CRDA – Regional Car Racing event being held at Shannonville so many auto racing enthusiasts will be there. The BBQ will be hamburgers, hotdogs and salads. As well as wine tasting.
