This is my first year competing in the solo 2 series.
When looking at the results, why am I not a novice?
Are there other criteria that are used to determine who is/isn't a novice?

Did you compete in morfe than three (3) Solo 2 events before Event # 1 in Picton?

Is so, you are not considered a novice. If not, drop Robb (the solo 2 director), Wendy (the series registar) and myself an e-mail stating your request and it will be changed. (All e-mail addresses are available on the Solo 2 web site)

Yes, I have competed in many PMSC solo 2 events, but only one regional before the picton event this year.
It's based on number of events (3) period or number of regional events?

Number of Solo 2 events regardless of the series or club.

The novice championship is for the total novices.

In 1999 I competed in 6 PITTL events and one Regional event thinking that I would make a solid run at the 2000 novice championship. It wasn't to be, oh well.

Sorry!

Same thing for me, I competed in 3 events last year. When I registered for the series this year, they were to only events I competed in.

However, b4 this year's regionals got underway, I got in 2 other club events, so they don't consider me a novice.

Not a big deal, just the way the rules work.

What I find funny is if say Al unser JR. wanted to make a run at a winston cup title he would be classed as a rookie!!what a load of crap the winston cup is(in that respect anyway).
Wasn't Tony stewart rookie of the year a couple years ago, multi time usac champ etc. etc. etc. just to give an example.

There IS a learning curve... You CAN'T deny THAT!
Montoya was over 1 sec off Gordon's time... and vice versa!

Wasn't Mansel also a Cart R.O.T.Y.???

50 y.o. formula car, world champion rookie!

Yea WOSCA was grooming a rookie for the regionals this year and got screwed by the rule change. The rule used to read "Calendar Year" not "this year's championship". We told him to do all the events he could come January, then after Picton a clarification was made. It really should have been anounced that the rule changed. This guy intentionaly skipped events last year to maintain rookie status.

So he was essentially cheating to win the Rookie of the year honors?
Wow...thats sad.

Well, I am pretty sure..and will confirm this...since I ran in the Rookie class last year...My understandings of the rules as of LAST year was that ANY solo II experience adding up to three events or more disallowed you from being a rookie. no time period, no exceptions for local events.

Too bad they didn't leave the rule at Calendar Year.

I just checked results and I have the novice marking beside my name ... I'm in the boat of I did more then 3 events before the regionals started .... could that be removed?

as much as I would love to compete for the rookie of the year....(since this is my first year ever doing solo 2) I have run more then 3 events before Picton and therefore don't qualify....

Correct... BEFORE the season started. The WOSCA season started in January.

So are you going to tell me that modifying your car to limit of the rules is cheating? No, he followed the rules, but the rule was CHANGED after he went to 2003 events (If I'm not mistaken the rule book wasn't posted until after our 2003 season started). If he had know this was the rule then he would have maintained rookie status. But he didn't have the new rules so he followed the rules he had. Since no change in the rule wording was pointed out we simply told him to what the rule always has been and it used to be calendar year.

I'm not saying the new rule is wrong, just that the minor wording change makes a big difference and it should have been mentioned in rules changes.

It was the same rule last year

The rule has NOT changed from last year.

Last years rule book is still online at 2002 Rule Book (http://www.soloontario.com/solo2/pdfs/2002Solo2Regs.pdf)

Section 4.1.2 says it all

I don't mean from last year, I mean from years previous (the last time I read the rule was 1998).
