I'll post this on OMSC's behalf.....

The web page has been updated with the event flyer, directions and small changes to the Event 2 results.

I sent an email to someone from OMSC with the following questions, but I figure I'd post them here as well:

1) Can anyone attend this event? I have never auto-x'd before and I'd like this to be my first time. Do I have to be a membre of OMSC?

2) How much will it cost to participate?

3) Can I borrow a helmet as I don't have one.

Finally, I don't have the most competitive car, but I'd like to push it to the limits anyway for fun and as a learning experience...so is there anyone in the same boat (littlerly..hehe) as me?

The event flyer has been modified to reflect the entrance fees.

Event # 3 Hosted by OMSC (http://www.soloontario.com/solo2/2003/omscevent3.htm)

Yes, anyone can attend.

The entry fee is included in the new flyer; $30 for series registered and OMSC compoetitors and $35 for non-series competitors.

Loaner helmets, you will have to await a response from OMSC, but typically yes there are loaner helmets available.

$30!? That's a little steep isn't it? I mean, for the DDT Skidpad. I don't suppose we get to use part of the track do we? $35 is totally out to lunch. It's one thing for COMP to charge $40 for their events because they have sick operating costs and the lot is.. well the best one around, plus they cap their events for low entries. But the DDT Skidpad?

Is OMSC serving lunch or something?

Is the layout going to be the same as last year or will it be a bit larger?

Even though the venue we will be using is small, it's still under the Mosport banner, which I think contributes siginificantly to the cost.

Thanks for the info.

I'm just worried that I pay the fees, but won't be able to race due to not finding a helmet.

Oh and I don't think the Camry will come auto-x it. It understeers while going striaght, that's how bad the tires are..hehe :p

btw, whats a DDT?

Ouch - i'll have to pony up $35 as a non-series registered competitor to run the skidpad...

What 's the deal on food - there was no mention of that anywhere...

maddindian, there are lots of guys who would be willing to lend a helmet if there are no loaners. If your head is the same as mine you're welcome to it (car #46).

There is a concession stand on the hill beside that might be open, they sell burgers, fries, hotdogs, drinks, etc.
But since I don't know, I will be packing my lunch.

DDT is the Driver Development Track. We aren't actually on the track (doh!) but the skidpad beside it.

Heck, I'm not even and OMSC member and I seem to know more about this than lots of people!
:)
Looking forward to seeing everyone on sunday.

why would non club members have to pay more?

when we organize an event in solo 1 it does not matter what club you are in...

just curious

The fee is higher for non-series registered entrants.

It has to do with scoring etc I think.
The series entrants have to pay $25 to run the series, so if you think about it, we just payed the extra $5 in advance.

Thanks for the info guys.

Logan: How's that Mazdaspeed Protege? That's the turbo model right? My buddy just bought a 2002 Protege ES 2.0 5-spd, and I'm trying to convince him to come to the Auto-X this Sunday. Its quite the handler, although those tires might be losing grip now.

ADAM: Your the guy with the S13 240SX turbo-ed KA24DE(t) right? I used to be on www.son240sx.ca back when I had my S14! Are you gonna attend the autox? I'd like to see your car in metal :)

Oh ya, what are the top speeds that are hit on the track? Around 70km/h (I figure its a tight track). And are all our runs, competiting runs? Or can we have some fun runs as well (to get a feel for the car/track).

maddindian:
We WILL NOT be on the track, but on the skidpad beside it.
I would expect many people to stay in 1st gear, depending on layout, 2nd for others that like to play with the shifter!

My car is GREAT.

By track I meant the auto-x course not the actual MOSPORT track. My bad.

Cool, I'm looking forward to it. How many runs can we expect to have?

Logan
06-20-2003, 04:09 PM
That depends on turnout, length of course, and organizational abilities.
I would expect a minimum of 4, and hope for 6, but who knows for sure?
There are no runs before competitive runs, there may be fun runs after the event is over.

Ah ok. Yeah I figured you wouldn't want fun runs before the competitive ones. You don't want the guys to know the track properly before hand! I attended a Formula SAE comptiteion which is kinda like Auto-X, except they have endurance as well (depending on event).

I hope we get 6 runs for competitive...and fun runs after...it' make the $35 worht it then.

so what time are we supposed to show up at the DDT to register and generally be on time? (sunday the 22nd)

maddindian
06-21-2003, 09:38 PM
Yeah can we get there at 9-9:30AM instead of 8:30AM?? I figure regsitration is between 8:30-9:45AM?? I'm not really a morning person.

Roughly how far is MOSPORT from Scarborough (I'll be coming the Kennedy exit on the 401)?

haniforama
06-21-2003, 10:17 PM
It'll be 45-50 kms from Scarborough on the 401 and another 20-25 north/east from the Waverly exit.

Plan on 45-50 minutes.

I've seen many speed traps along that route so be careful and keep the speeds in check. Save it for the course :)

So to confirm: I go on 401 East..then I take the durham 57 Norht exit (#431) and then go east on Regional Rd. 20.
