This is mighty dissapointing.

I have always been of the mindset... that we are ALL SOLO competitors... and being that we are all "in it together", have had a bit of faith and trust in my fellow solo'ers. NO MORE.

Sadly... it seems that my handheld CB radio has gone "missing".

I took it out of the car when I got to the event... placed it in my "pit area" and covered it up with all of my other stuff.

I had noticed that my "stuff" was in different arrancements throughout the event... but I learned that it was because a few of my friends were bowwowing my stuff (Jack, tools, etc. - no problem! That's what this sport is ALL ABOUT!)

Come the end of the event... I noticed when packing up the absence of my CB. No big deal... I'm sure it's in this pile of stuff somewhere....

Turns out... it was not. It had gone missing.

There is no where else it could be... it wasn't there when I left. SOMEONE physically removed it from my pit-area.

Very sad.
Perhaps it was an honest mistake, etc... dunno

If anyone has FOUND a CB... well... it's mine.... a prompt return at the next event... or returning it to the SOLO 2 organizers anonymously would be appreciated / and forgotten.

If anyone saw anyone walking around with a handheld rectangular bit of grey electronics... it's mine... any insight?

It's sad.
I suppose it MAY have looked like a valuable scanner for listening to race cars / teams at Mosport... but it was only an inexpensive CB radio. It was a birthday gift from a fellow competitor. Now it's MIA.

IF my worst fears are true... that REALLY changes things for me in this sport... WHAT are we to do... if we can not trust our fellow competitors??? IF this turns out to be the case... I would seriously re-consider running the series.

:(

This is disappointing news indeed.

Can't say I noticed too many people there I didn't otherwise know or who I haven't otherwise seen or who wern't with a group I otherwise knew. So hopefully it's some honest mistake or it's hiding somewhere rather than purposefully stolen.

Doesn't sound good though. That would be 2 incidents this year vs the zero incidents as far as I know the past two years.

I know there was a propblem at the Prosolo but there were alot of people there. It was afterall at a very big shopping mall.

Hope this is just a mistake and you recover it soon.

yeah... this sucks.

So my overpriced day at DDT ends up costing me a new CB radio as well... I'm buying a new one currently.

Dissapointing...

In the past, I have left my valuables laying around... Just being trustworthy around people I thought I could trust... my Solo family. :(

Hell... I've even left the keys in my ignition previously...

NO MORE.
I hope whoever HAS my CB has a great time with it. Say hi to the truckers for me.

NOW I see why those ANNOYING idiots leave there ALARMS ON!!!
I thought they were overly paranoid! Now I might have to follow in their footsteps! This sucks!

Either that... or I'll just bring along the meanest, ugliest, biggest, friend and his dog along to watch over my stuff. He has a tazer and isn't afraid to use a torque wrench!

;) :D

What jerks... they make it bad for everyone.

This does suck. But I'm willing to bet that whoever did take it was not a member of the Solo community.

It was probably somebody that happened upon the event and is not associated with us in anyway.

No doubt. Of course, the event grounds and paddock are openly accessible to anyone so there's not much to be done about keeping non-competitors out at the moment.

That's horrible. Especially at that event, where one of the advantages is the extreme rarity of passers by. I'm the person always yelling at people for turning their alarms on, when I always leave my keys in the ignition. It saddens me to think we have to start worrying about theft at Solo-2's now.

Miataboy, I really hope it turns up. If it makes you feal better I lost my chair and sunglasses at the last club event I was at. They both turned up. Fellow competitors had moved them thinking someone had abbandoned them. Maybe your radio got moved to someone elses pit and they are trying to figure out whos it is?

Jaaaayyyy (:D ) drop the organizers an e-mail, maybe someone found it!

Here I'm someone who tells the newbies in the sport that it's not a problem to leave things laying about because we are all in the same boat. A big happy family looking out for each other.:(

Instead of locking up our cars and getting all paranoid why not just ask everyone to keep an eye out?

All the regulars know what everyone's car looks like, and it's normally pretty easy to spot someone who doesn't quite fit in.

At the second winter WOSCA event I had all my stuff in a yellow garbage bag. Because is was so cold that day I didn't empty my car before I left. I had almost $1000 worth of stuff in the bag. After my 3rd or 4th run I decided to move it closer to where everyone had gathered... it was gone.

I still leave all my stuff out and my keys in the ignition, I just keep a closer eye out on my stuff, and other's stuff.

BTW: I wasn't on this forum back then, so if anyone picked it up please let me know. The bag had a pool cue, handheld GPS, several CD's, and a ton of other crap.

Thanks,

Chris Miller.

I'm sure you know the dangers of this... ;)

(Sure is a long walk down that dirt road at Bronte...)

Sucks about the radio though. I don't usually give a second thought to leaving stuff lying around, although maybe I should.
Lets hope it turns up!

I've got a K40 weather cap with your name on it if it makes you feel any better!

I locked and armed my car when I wasn't around it. And I kept my video camera in the trunk when I was competing.

I suggest you guys do the same. Keep the cameras and stuff either in the trunk or give to someone to hold when you are competing.

I was actually surprised to see people leaving their tools and stuff out in the open. I know when I went drag racing once, I was surprised to see people leaving their expensive rims/tires out in the grass with no one around to watch it.

I guess I'm just paranoid..or the fact that I'm from Scarborough and have had bad experiences already.

I've noticed people from around TO are a lot less trusting. Newbies around here don't even ask if it's safe they just leave their stuff out, and most leave their cars unlocked. At PITL events I've had people say they don't like attending slaloms because they won't leave their stuff out. I once saw a guy refuse to empty his trunk.

Marshall: Well it's not like spectators flock an hour out of the GTA to the Wosca events, or Peterborough Events... but when you're in town, on a venue approachable from 3 sides, the opportunity for misfortune is amplified.

I've been leaving my stuff out since day one, though often I would put my camcorder in the trunk. But with a couple incidents this year now, time to go the extra step. :(

As for TO people doing that while out at out-of-town events, probably just habit more than anything. In the end, I've always said... "Why set yourself up to be a victim?" And basically now there's no concious thought when I do things like that, it's really just habit like brushing or eating.

That's because people from T.O. are cold, heartless animalistic excuses for hman beings. They will cut you off in traffic, step on your toes, won't make eye contact and will keep you down so that they can get ahead. They are true "big-city people"
