Just to remind every one that regional event #4 will be held next Sunday, July 6th, at Blandford Square Mall in Woodstock.

http://www.wosca.com/Event_info/Region-2003-Event-4.htm

Registration Begins at 9:00 am, driver's meeting begins at 10:00 am. Registration is closed at the beginning of the drivers meeting. All driver's must attend the driver's meeting or they will not be allowed to run.

Cost is $20. All competitors will be scored in the series points, therefor there is a $5 surcharge for ALL competitors not series registered. There is also a discount of WOSCA members (all paid wosca members are expected to marshal).

No course marshaling will be required, however volunteers are greatly appreciated. If time allows, fun runs will be $1 each, however any competitor that has helped course marshal at least once will get free fun runs.

Food and bathrooms will available on site inside the air conditioned mall. Lunch at "Carol's Cafe" runs less than $7 and includes a fresh sandwich, soup and a drink. The special of the day will be anounced at the driver's meeting. Gas and all other services are located within 5 minutes.

I'm there...

Hey Marsh, who's gonna design the course? Hopefully it will be wide enough for us "Boat" drivers.

Of course, I'm only thinking about my other colleagues, like the guy that races an Honda Accord, Ben in the Firechicken... :p

See ya there.

If you Legacy is a boat, then my Maxima must be the Titanic!! :p

How far is Woodstock from Scarborough?

The exit for Blanford Mall is #238.

Scarborough is approx 375-385.

Do some math, and it's approx 140kms on the 401.

The Mall is directly off of the highway in Wopodstock, so add you time to the 401 and take into account 140kms on the 401.

From Morningside & 401 in Scarborough it takes me about 1hr 45 minuts to get to Blanford Mall.

Wosca knows how to put on a great event. At one of the spring warm ups, we actually were able to change a 1 lap solo to a 2 lap solo, simply by asking.

They really do cater to the racers. Great people, great event, great fun... And then there's Marsh... That's another story. ;)

Madindian,

Thanks for the video of my car. You got my "Brain Fart" run... LOL

See you out there.

No problem. It was a pleasure watching you run and listening to your turbo spool and blow off valve releasing pressure! :)

I definately want a ride-along in your car man!

I'll be making the course. It will likely be just a tiny bit tighter than other WOSCA courses at that lot.

No, actually Joe I'm pretty certain the car is faster with it. It works much like limited slip and allows me to get on the throttle VERY early.

Too bad you weren't at the event today, you would have kicked a$$. I don't have the results yet, but I'm pretty sure Tony won. It will be a little slower than today, similar to HADA, or likely a little faster. The problem is course length. If I make it two laps it will take too long, if I make it one lap I have to slow it down to keep the times over 30 seconds. There will be one or two tight spots, the rest will be normal WOSCA. I'll post a course map before the event.

JoeT

Make it a 2 lapper, but the 2nd lap can be 1/2 the course. That should keep it in the 40 second range.

Looking forward to next week... Keep it fast please!!! Begging!!!

You got that right Joe, it's a long drive from Sarnia to Barrie, especially with that damn speed limiter... you know, the one in the passenger seat! LOL

Rob,

I will be there Sunday, along with Terry, so we should have a filled class. We will be bringing my seven, although Kevin and Terry got to the bottom of the dwarf car woes. The low oil pressure cut off switch for the fuel pump was toast, so we had zip fuel pressure. We're hoping to do some more driver ergonomic improvements before the next PITL, where the dwarf will come out again. I think this has been an intermittant problem since the last regional last year.

Yup, there's even propositioning going on when you're not there Tom... Where were you anyway, we missed you.

Lotsa cars, well run event, need wider tires.

Anyone know who was responsible for the 2 little ones that spent the day in our tent?

As usual it was a fun event. I only did three runs (one of them in a Miata) but I didn't mind the course. Tight and tricky but doable... Although I can imagine it wasn't much fun for the V8s and WRXes. I would say some more open bits would have even things out... Maybe extending the "little loop" to past the second lamppost with a big straight or fast slalom. Then again I have no horsepower so what do I know?

BTW... Miatas are faster than Mirages. Okay, I admit it. That is, until the super-Rage is complete. >:) Thanks for the run Yvan. :D

question - do the results show in bss whether you ran on street rubber or r compound?

~spoonie

Yvan
07-07-2003, 11:05 AM
Spoonie,

No, tire type plays no role in 2003 rules. It is recorded on the registration form only because the form is based on last year's.

spoonie
07-07-2003, 11:08 AM
so basically i'm losing 2 seconds in bss as the sticky tires are considered a free mod? just asking, not complaining :)

~spoonie

Yvan
07-07-2003, 11:26 AM
Yes. Up until last year there used to be a 2% bonus for street tires. It didn't quite make up for the difference (3-5% is more realistic, depending on the tires) but it encouraged people into the sport.

I understand it was dropped because (a) it was too much of a hassle to keep track of who was and who wasn't running streets. (b) people were bad about making the declaration at registration, they wouldn't put the S on their car as per the rules, then would complain once the results were posted (c) many clubs software did not support the whole concept of street tire bonus so they would have to be calculated after the fact

Great event, I had a good time - maybe next time the heat will let up just a little bit though...

Keith, thanks for not coming - that way I didnt have to deal with you propositioning C2 class again :)

OTOH, I may be dumb to complain about this, but I'm starting to think my car is mis-classed (the IS300 in C2). I've won the class both times I've been out - these have been my first two Solo2's ever, and I dont think I'm *that* good of a driver.

I'll keep enjoying it until they change it though...

Andy K.
PS: So, why did everyone take the change-box to the left on the 2nd pass? I would have thought the right was the best way to take it on the 2nd pass, but I confess I took it left both times because I saw everyone else doing it!! :)

Taylor

I tried right the first run and it seemed to work okay but when you only have so many runs and it's for points I try not to do too much experimenting.

Basically left only required a little kink of the car, meanwhile right required a wide setup. logically you should want to get on the power earlier (right side) but when you watch the more experienced guys go through on the left.... :)

Yvan
07-07-2003, 01:29 PM
I tried both and found it made little difference. Two of my runs in different lanes were withing 0.05s of each other from what I recall.

Marsh
07-07-2003, 01:56 PM
I don't think it made much difference in my car, but after going left in the firebird, I think the right would have been faster in a high power car.

I was already to give up on option boxes, but several people told me that they really liked it last week so I used it again, and I'm very happy with the results. It seems every one (inlcuding my self) finished the event still unsure of which way was faster.

andrew1984
07-07-2003, 01:58 PM
left first time and right second time.

that was the quicker way IMO.

superdave
07-07-2003, 02:00 PM
During the walk through I came to the conclusion left-right would be quickest. First run I tried it and it seemed ok. I saw -lots- of people going left-left... I tried that and it seemed faster. More of a twich than anything going left the second time.

Stewpiddass I had decided back when the schedule was posted that if I was to skip an event it would be the wosca event.Has nothing to do with the club or anything, its simply the furthest event from home for me.
I would've liked to attend but the timing worked out well to miss this event so a new clutch could be installed and try to have a little break in prior to the bronte event.Besides I took saturday and brought home my little road racer.

StewPiddass

Bronte Event, aren't you gonna break it in @ TLMC this Saturday???

I'm in first place (ahead of Galos) in the points standings but if he gets too many FTD's (good for 1 bonus point), he'll pass me. I need someone else to get FTD!!!

Stewpiddass with the intense competition in BSS I've decided to only run the regional events to limit the # of runs(heat cycles)on the khumo's and keep them as fresh as possible, should still be ok for the shootout. That assumes it'll be dry this year!
Besides I'm in the middle of a garage project at home and I've been working 12-14 hours a day between that and my real job.
I've been considering bringing my latest toy to try out,but I need some rims and tires other than the skinny little all season's the crx is currently rolling on.You wouldn't have any spares would you?.

Oh yeah, how fast is Galos this year-does the corolla have a shot at an FTD?

Is there a twin lakes event this coming saturday?I have to head to Orillia to pick up the corolla so doing that event with the CRX is out.
Hanif I might consider that if you were coming to a TLMC event, the CRX is a B mod car and I'd not run it a regional.I have a good repore with the kart track owner up here and he'll let me rent the track by the hour for me to test and tune(I have to remount the seat-the guy musta been 7 feet tall!)that way I can run a bunch of laps and have more time to find any problems.

StewPiddass
07-09-2003, 09:48 PM
Yes there is an event this saturday... don't worry about classing, we only have FWD1 (under1.6), FWD2 (1.6 to 2.0) and FWD3 (2.0 and up). BMod car eh... which motor is in it? If it's not a B18 you can't come cuz you'll be in my class!!! LOL I need the points.

Sorry Stewpiddass but the CRX is B16a1 powered,I can't be there anyways. So I guess you'll have to beat Dave out for overall honours on your own-unless you'd like to pay me to go for FTD!:D
