Ok, I got the cage kit delivered the other day from JEGS. Ya, they actually had a kit for a Fiero and it was cheap.

So it turns out that the Main hoops are over done with 1 5/8" .130 tubing

But I have a few concerns with some of the other bars and the overally design:

1. They rate the cage design to meet NHRA and IHRA standards. Is this compatible with CASC-OR standards?
if not, I have the following questions:

1. The design doesn't use a "front" hoop, but a "Halo" top hoop with front pillars - does this qualify

2. Side Bars - The "main" side bar starts at approximately the hieght of the rear cross bar (harness bar) and runs to the bottom of the front pillar bar, and then 2 bars run the opposite way to form an "X". - does this qualify

3. Some of the bars included in the kit are 1 1/4 (not sure of the thickness, I will have to check), So I'm assuming that I will have to replace these with thicker ones, but should they be 1 1/2 .120 (which is min for CASC-OR) or do they have to be the same size at the main hoop 1 5/8 .130?
I'm a little confused on the rules in the CASC-OR regs

6.4.6 All tubing shall be the same size as that which is specified for the weight of the car.

Does this count for "recomended" bars, ei dash bar and front braces?

4. This kit included 2 lateral braces that extend from the harness bar at the main hoop to the floor at an angle.
6.3 BRACING
6.3.1 The main hoop shall have two braces of tubing extending to the rear attaching to the frame or
chassis. This bracing shall be attached as near as practical to the top of the main hoop, no more
than 6in below the top, and at an included angle of at least 30 degrees. The main hoop shall have a
diagonal brace to prevent lateral distortion.
does this qualify?

Any help would be much appreciated. :D

Just a heads up.

Last I checked, (and you may want to call them, this info is about a year old) the JEG'S cages are ERW, not DOM tube. Just make sure your thicknesses and diameters meet CASC-OR rules for ERW.

Keep in mind, ERW is being phased out of road race cages. I think that CASC is one of the last places to allow ERW cages.

I knew it was to good to be true!

Maybe I'll just put the main hoop in so I can use the harness, and then use it as a template to get some DOM bent up.

Thanks.
