I'm trying to understand the solo II rules for catalytic converters.

I'm in BSS, so let's focus on that:
5.15.2 says "Catalytic converters may be added or moved..."

My car is "Stock" in BSS:
5.11.4 says "The exhaust system, including any catalytic converter(s), but excluding exhaust manifold(s), downpipe and emission control systems may be modified provided the exhaust system meets (not exempt) the then current Ontario emission regulations. A catalytic converter may not be replaced with multiple catalytic converters and the locations shall remain essentiall 'OE'."

Note: 5.19.6 (Street Prepared) says cats may be removed.

Are these rules saying if I can get my car to pass an emissions test with fewer than the factory number of cats then my car is "legal"??
Does anyone have access to "the then current Ontario emission regulations"?? Or know where to find them?

Logan , my interpetation of that is you can remve the cats provided you can pass the emmisions.

COMMITTEE please correct me if I am wrong.

No Tony, I don't think you can. We had this discussion a couple of years ago. The emissions standards for modern cars require the presence of a cat, so it must be there. The attitude toward the rule has been that you can swap in a more open cat so long as you can get it to pass emissions. What most people don't understand is that this is illegal. The emissions laws actually state the number of elelments in the cat. I really think the rule needs some clarification in the that respect.

The adding/removing thing, has to do with moving the cat to accomidate a different header or exhaust etc. The adding, means you can add an extra one if you want, or add one to a car that didn't have one. But you can't put in a Y pipe with two cats to decrease back pressure.

I've been trying to locate a copy of the emissions regulations, with no success.
I called the Drive Clean hotline number to see if they could tell me where to find a copy.
I chatted with the fellow, he informed me that in order to pass an emissions test the vehicle being tested has to be equipped with the same number of cats as originally manufactured, this is part of the visual inspection.

In Super Stock if the car is pre 1992 than the cat can be removed, cars newer than '92 can add or move cats provided the car meets the emmission requirements.
If the car is in Street prepared than the rules state that on any year vehicle the cat can be removed.

So if lets say a WRX(example only)running in SS has an aftermarket or modified exhaust that deletes a cat(most newer cars have at least 2)than that mod is illegal and the car would have to classed in SP.
