I have just returned to Coquitlam after a very enjoyable weekend at the Glen - my favourite racing place.

Special thanks to Ken Graham, Paul Coveart, Linda and Colin King for their hospitality and helping to making it happen.

Hey Robert, it was nice to sit down and have a chat with you, Ken and Paul down there.

We had a great time at the Glen, the Big Cat ran like clockwork all weekend. I started 9th on Sunday, at the start I out dragged a GT1 Camaro and Porsche Supercup to turn 1, we settled into a good pace and managed to get down to a new personal best lap time of 2:06.216
I battled all race with a second, and very wide GT1 Camaro, finally passing him on the last lap under braking going into the bus stop. Only to have him repass me stupidly under yellow as we climbed out of the boot past a stricken ex WC Audi.

Unfortunately both the BMW M1's had mechanical failures and didnt get to play Sunday, both Marcus and Aram seem to be jinxed at the Glen. Car counts were definately down from the 600+ in 2005 to 400 cars this year. The Group 6 Race was intense with Peter Klutt winning from Pole in his Vette followed home in 2nd with a great drive by Frank Fusillo in his Vette. Not sure how the rest of the Canadians fared but there was a good showing of cars from north of the border.

It was a treat to meet Lanky Fouchee at the Glen, he was there wrenching on Bill Warner's ex Group 44 TR8. For those that dont know the name, Lanky was the Crew Chief for Group 44 Inc. and built our car. Bill also had his ex Group 44TR6 there.

Tim Suddard, Publisher of Grass Roots Motorsports/Classic Motorsports came by with an invite, aparently there will be a Group 44 display at the 2009 Amelia Island Concourse and then a Group 44 Reunion Race at the 2009 Walter Mitty Historic Races.

Glad you had a good race weekend Steve. Not sure if you were affected by the "fog" rolling in on Saturday afternoon as some of the races were cancelled. It reminded me of the 73 T/A when the same thing happened on race day. It was stopped after 72 laps of the scheduled 92. Mo Carter was leading in his 427 camaro and was declared the winner. Ludwig Heimrath was 6th in his Porsche.

It was the first year of the new T/A rules (big block camaros, Turbo Porsches, 427 Vettes etc) and our puny 305 ex Carter 69 camaro was sadly outclassed, but Rick Stevens and I finished 22nd out of 40 starters. It had started to rain shortly before the fog rolled in and I changed to rains and was making up some time when the race was stopped. I'm curious if anyone else on this forum was there for that 73 race?

I managed to score some early Trans-Am and Can-Am programs (which Brian Redman signed for me) in the town. They were brand new - apparently had been put into storage after those early races and were found recently, so now I have started another memorabilia collection - recently sold most of my previous collection to a friend who asked me "how much?" and when I threw out a price that I was sure he wouldn't bite on, he said "OK".


That Amelia Island deal is a good one - one that I have not managed to get to yet. There is also some vintage racing at Sebring shortly after that event.

Yeah the fog that rolled in Saturday afternoon cancelled our qualifying race, with the 8:15 am race Sunday, the track was damp and cold but we went with the softer compounds and there were no issues. The Glen is by far my favourite track, but I may change that after going to Sebring in December. :)

Sebring is flat as a board and the present layout is not the original 5.2 mile circuit. There is however, lots of famous racing history connected with the track.

If you want to try some historic circuits, get yourself to VIR, Lime Rock, Road Atlanta, and most definitely, Road America. Laguna is also great, but it's not the original layout, although most of it is used.
