I was reviewing the Classification system for my car, and I can't get it to add up.
I have a 1997 Mustang SVT Cobra, with 305HP and a curb weight of 3391 lbs. The rule book gives the 1998 Cobra a Handling Index of 55 (1998 Cobra is the same as 1997 Cobra).
The math: (35.0-(3391/305))/(35.0-6.0)=(35.0-11.1)/29.0
=82.4%

Performance Index=(Weight-to-Horsepower Index x 70%) + (Handling Index) x 30%
=82.4 x 70% + 55 x 30%
=57.7+16.5
=74.2

This should put me in GT2. I was originally classified in GT1 with no modifications.
Did I miss something?

Also, I had blast on the weekend at DDT! R-comps make a world of difference. Thanks to everyone who helped me out with the unscheduled brake pad replacement, especially Dave Barker and Steve Anderson.

Russ, we have the curbweight listed at 3242 lbs for the 1998 Cobra SVT (as published in CarGuide magazine) in the classification spreadsheet, along with the 305 horsepower rating you used. It is the lower curbweight number we're using that resulted in the base PI of 75.4% and the classification of GT1 (75.0 to 79.9%), rather than the 74.2% PI you've calculated. However, I see a curbweight listing of 3375 lbs. for the 97 Cobra coupe at http://autos.msn.com/vip/specifications.aspx?modelid=1118&src=vip Where did you get the curbweight rating you used in your calculations? If your source is credible, I will add a new line to the classification spreadsheet for the 1997 SVT Cobra and calculate a new PI for it. This may result in your car moving down to GT2 (as long as you haven't modified the car in any way, other than the 'authorized mods' for Starting Class) for future events.

Glad to see you're checking up on us, and feel free to drop me an e-mail with any follow-up discussion at dpratte4@cogeco.ca

Cheers,
Dave

Dude ... stay out of my class! I can live with you kicking my ass, as long as you're in GT1 :p

I think I'm gonna dyno my car with a banana in the tail pipe :D

Too late! We're going head to head from now on.

I was annoyed that the CC plates and sub frame connectors weren't in yet, but now I'll leave them off for the rest of the season. Still don't have any delusions about winning anything, but it will be nice to get a bit closer.

See you at TMP!
