So took apart my car this week..and my car had a hub failure..the actual hub was sheered apart so the wheel was just spinning on the 1/2 shaft when it failed..which wrecked the 1/2 shaft..then the 36mm nut would not come off so I had to cut it off..so then I needed a new nut as well ... got a OEM hub yesterday so will be ready for Mosport...

Do you lift your drive wheels under cornering, or hit the apexes hard?

I have seen a very similar situation, but it was in a FWD car. The driver used to clobber the kerbs, and the tire would spin in the air. When it came down, and stopped VERY quickly, the hubs would shear at the area yours has, from the rapid change in speed required.

Is this a possibility?

i think it had more to do with Adam drag racing his V8 on stock nissan drive terrain parts the day before.

i was in the car when it happened, and Adam wasnt doing anything out of the ordinary, we were going into corner 3 on fabi and when he nailed the gas to exit it just went POOF

UMMMM... no drag racing..thats what I learned :)

I think it was the drag racing the night before..I did about 8-10 passes..and was just dropping the clutch like mad :) plus the 315's started to hook up after a few passes

and the way the car torques that wheel gets loaded up the most..and I guess it was the weakest link..

yes..during lapping I was not being hard on it...was going into 3 on fabi, rolled on the gas in 4th gear...and the revs just climbed then the rear started to skate around when on the throttle..I thought the diff blew out

wait... fourth gear through Fabi3? Am I confused, or is that the really tight right that I was trying to decide between 3rd and 2nd?

when you make 400 torque and you want to power down you might stay in 4th too :)

Hmmm.

The 300ZX (non-turbo) shares the same rear suspension including the rear hub which you seperated. The 300ZX twin-turbo has a different rear hub, and is presumably stronger. I wonder if you can upgrade? edit: Nevermind, the 300ZX turbo hubs won't fit the 240.

Also, what is the condition of the bearing? Did it fail? I imagine the rear bearings have taken a fair bit of abuse.

Yowzers!! Too much power, Adam! Time to de-tune that beast a little, don't ya think? ;)

Sorry to hear/see what happened ... obviously you got the car off the track in one piece ... could have been much worse, obviously?

So how did the car do in the 1/4 mile anyways???

no clue..its was hands down 1/4 mile racing... only 2 cars beat me..however they were dedicated drag cars with huge slicks....

I was doing around 12.5 to 12.7 if I was to guess
