Anyone else considering this double-header event August 2-3?
I'm going to be on that end of the country the preceeding week, and I'm going to find out if I can extend my vacation by a few days to accomodate this event.
2000' x 400' venue!!
They use the CNAC rules, so R's and different size wheels are each 1 prep point. Which is fine, as I don't want to cart these wheels across the country...

Yeah I'm still back and forth about going. The thing holding me back more than anything is tires. I'd be driving a friends Civic Si but he only has a older set of R1's which are a little too big for the rim and a little too worn. I don't think they'd make it past the first day.
Still hoping he or others out there come up with a second set we can use.

woohoo!
Registration is IN!
This is going to be some fun I think.
I'm trying to decide how serious I am:
not serious: leave R tires here
kinda serious: take 'em with me...
I think I understand the rules: My car is DStock, I'm allowed 2 prep points in stock, R's and different size wheels, so using my Kumho's still keeps me in DStock.
Am I correct?

If someone (ahem "andrew") drives up with a trailer... I'd like to rent some trailer space for some tires. :)

Friday is a test day. They setup a small course on another part of the run way and have segment times. You run it all afternoon and get to compare where you improved.. .it's great for testing lines and trying out things. I think I got something like 9 runs last year myself. Could have had more but we wanted to preserve the tires.

oh... but then again... i dont know if i could do that.. the trailer is where i hide my NOS!

what happens if you dont have a full class?
looks like im by myself... ??
Logan

So far I'm the only one registered in my class too (D/Stock).
The rules are on www.cnacsolo.ca (or.com, can't remember which).
How big is your trailer andrew????
I think this event is great value:
$15 for friday testing
$55 for the weekend's racing
HUGE lot!!!
PEI isn't very expensive either.
It's just the trip to/from.

my trailer is 4x8.
im interested in going for the experience...
im uneasy on adding another 400lbs onto the back of the bug, but we can talk about it.
Maybe if taylor admits that FWD is faster then RWD then..:D
Anyhow, we will see.. if i can get my car sorted before this then most likely ill go.
So how many runs do we get on friday? i could use alot of test/tune time.
Logan
07-21-2003, 01:29 PM
Andrew,
I will likely take my own tires, I'm leaving this friday (the 25th) and can't forsee a convenient time for us to meet and make arrangements.
The schedule on their website. If they don't get much attendance on Friday, that leaves lots of test and tune time!

how long does it take to get there roughly?
Logan

I'm driving straight to my Dad's place in Nova Scotia, which is close to the bridge to PEI. It's going to take me 16-18 hours for that drive.
This place is about 45 minutes from Charlottetown PEI.

yikes... from mapquest.com
Total Distance: 1655.43 km
Total Estimated Time: 27 hours, 12 minutes
15-16 hours is much more acceptable.....
Logan
07-21-2003, 01:44 PM
I guess mapquest assumes we would be "normal" people and take extended rest breaks along the way.
BAH!

Andrew: I got a big number of runs on the Friday, could have had many more but we needed to save the tires (heavy M3, 2 drivers and we drove on the R's at pretty low pressures and they were starting to scallop so once we were comfortable with the setup we left it alone)...there are likely to be fewer attendees this year than last too just because this is easterns rather than nationals. Still I think there's 60 on the entry form and they get quite a few (late entry) people entering in the last 2 weeks. Like myself :)
As for an empty class... umm.. I guess you Win! :) You could move up a class to run with the bigger boys if that's possible.
Yeah the drive is about 16-18 hours, assuming you just stop for gas and quick stops for lunch and/or dinner. I've done the drive several times (to Halifax). The highways in New Brunswick are updated in the past couple years so you can save a fair bit of time there (say an hour now maybe) over before if yo ucaught any traffic. 110km/h limit.
I should have my ticket bought by the end of the day. :)

oh, and ill only come if i can get a ride in your ever-so-slow car when we get there :D *cheapshot*

Andrew: You talkin' to me? I said.. are you talkin' to me?
I'm not driving up, I'm flying. I'll drive a friends Civic Si there.
wiredracing@hotmail.com (MSN) (BTW, I NEVER EVER EVER check that email address, I just got it for that Microsoft Passport bullcrappy.)
I'm trying to get the name of the place a lot of us are staying at so you can try to get a room there.. but I didn't do the reservations, so I'm waiting on the response from dude who did.

My Dad is trying to set something up for us as well.

The place is - Summerside Motel & Restrauant - which you can see in all it's glory at http://www.peisland.com/summersidemotel/
It's all about the 70's furniture yo!
We did have reservations at Slemon Park (location of the event) but the wankers (the corporation) rented out all our rooms to a Hockey Camp. Jackasses...
BTW, this is PEI, so that's probably 3.5star right there baby!

I think I will be staying at the Holiday Inn - Charlottetown, one free night...
It's a bit of a trek to the venue, but I'm used to it!
Allows for some sight-seeing too.

Its a great time. The course is huge, course walks take like 20 minutes. :) I attended but didn't run last year because I'd only had one event under my belt and its INTIMIDATING. :)

Impressive turnout from the Northeast US, open wheel cars etc... Good food, good company... Great way to spend a weekend.

Aiight... photos and video posted on Wired along with all the other details.
In short, both Doug and I won our classes.
Check out the report on Tony McGrath at the Mazda Rev-It-Up Competition too.

Naw it just looks that way, the course was very very easy to follow. I'd say you could count the number of off courses on two hands over the two days.

Logan: Don't sweat it too much. I've posted all the pictures I can fit for the article.
Shame we didn't take more video but with that threat of rain on Saturday and the fact we were running in the same group (you right behind me) it was a little difficult. :)

Hundreds of pictures at http://pics.spoon.org/Cars.
Also video of a few other competitors and all 8 of our Sunday runs there as well.
Somewhat of a dissapointing turnout with only 60 drivers, but a great weekend none the less.
